In Loving Memory
June 10, 1929 – January 21, 2017
Dorothy “Dot” Shealy Cooper, 87, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Dot was born on June 10, 1929 in Newton County, MS, lived in Birmingham for 40 years and became a resident of Baldwin County in 2002. She was a member of Silverhill First Baptist Church. Dot was a wonderful cook – David and Robbie said she made everything from scratch and growing up she had pie or cake at every meal. Anyone who ate her chicken and dumplings knew that they were the best. Dot loved her family and she will be missed dearly. Up until the last week of her life, her memory and thoughtfulness were impeccable. She was our family historian.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lamar Smith and Macie Smith Smith; husbands, James “Lewis” Shealy and George D. Cooper; sisters and brothers.
Dot is survived by her daughter, Robbie S. (David) Rainer; two granddaughters, Ashley Rainer and Allyson Rainer; multiple nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Highland Memorial Gardens, 3115 18th Ave., Bessemer, AL, 35020. Rev. Tim Smith will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Silverhill First Baptist Church, 15898 Silverhill Ave, Silverhill, AL, 36576. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL.
