Arlene Katherine Allert Hails

January 31, 1932 – February 6, 2017

 

 

Fairhope, AL

Arlene Allert Hails, 85, a long-time resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Monday, February 6, 2017, with family at her bedside following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. 

She was born in the tiny mill village of Pequaming in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  As a young teenager, she moved to Chicago, Illinois with her family where she eventually met her first husband, the father of her sons.  In the late 1950’s she and her husband moved their small family to the Boca Raton, Florida area.  She eventually became a real estate broker and started her own real estate firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the early 1970s.  Then in 1974, she moved her family to Alabama and made Fairhope her home for many years.  Mrs. Hails (then Felter) was the Accounting Manager at Emperor Clock Company in Fairhope.  After retiring from Emperor Clock, she became a licensed General Contractor and began building homes with her sons in Baldwin County.  In 1995, she met her greatest love, Al Hails, and they married in 1999.  She was a talented artist displaying her artistic abilities through needlepoint, ceramics and oil paintings.  She loved the outdoors, warm sunshine and tending to her flower gardens.  She was most recently a resident of Mobile in the care of Gordon Oaks Memory Care Assisted Living and Allen Health and Rehabilitation.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur N. Allert, Sr. and Evelyn Thoresen Allert; her loving husband, Allison Hails; her older sister, G. Linnea Forsman; and her two eldest sons, Jeffrey Jon Jacobson and Lee Philip Jacobson.  

She is survived by her older brother, Arthur N. Allert, Jr. of L’Anse, Michigan;  her daughter, Amy Felter (Michael) Bolt of Mobile, AL; three sons, Eric (Lisa) Jacobson of Lillian, AL, Jay Jacobson of Fairhope, AL and Craig Jacobson of Summerdale, AL; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three generations of nieces and nephews. 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Silverhill Covenant Church, 16094 AL Hwy 104, Silverhill, Alabama, on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Silverhill Covenant Church or to The Alzheimer’s Association (http://www.alz.org/alfl/in_my_community_donate.asp).
