In Loving Memory

June 21, 1944 – December 27, 2017

Daphne, AL

Johnny Mack Dedeaux, 73, of Daphne, AL, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 27, 2017.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brasfield Dedeaux; his sons, Thomas Lee (Becky) Dedeaux; John Bryan (Allison) Dedeaux; his five beloved grandchildren; brother-in-law, Sonny (Kathy) Brasfield, and sister-in-law, Martha (Wayne) Scotch.

Johnny lived life to its fullest, dedicating his time to Barbara, the love of his life, to his family, and his hobbies and passions of antique automobiles, Alabama’s beautiful gulf coast, NASCAR, and the University of Alabama. He was born on June 21, 1944 to Homer Dedeaux and Jewel Brown Dedeaux in Birmingham, AL, and then spent his entire childhood in Tuscaloosa.  He graduated from the University of Alabama’s Capstone School of Engineering and dedicated his career to the profession he loved.

He made his professional mark first with McAbee Construction, Inc., in Tuscaloosa before relocating to Baldwin County in 1994 where he distinguished himself with Brown & Root Industrial Services, LLC., and then with Halliburton. He retired, after more than 50 years as a professional, licensed engineer, in 2017.

Family time on and around the water was at the heart of Johnny’s life.  Many wonderful family memories were made fishing, swimming, skiing and spending time with Barbara and his two sons on Lake Tuscaloosa.  Once moving to the Gulf Coast, he immersed himself for decades as a leader of the Summerhouse Home Owners Association.  He was a fixture in Orange Beach but, in recent years, turned his time to caring for family and maintaining his yard and home.

A Celebration of Johnny’s life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Daphne United Methodist Church, 2401 Main Street, Daphne.  Family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne, AL is assisting the family.
