In Loving Memory
November 17, 1938 – April 18, 2018
Karen Rae York Middlebusher passed on April 18, 2018, after a year-long battle with metaplastic breast cancer. She was 79 years old. She was born on November 17, 1938 to Robert Eutah York and Edna Marie Domino in Ogden, Iowa. She has an older brother, Ron. Before she started school, she moved around the midwest as her father worked for Northern Natural Gas. She attended elementary and middle school in Ogden, Iowa. She attended Holcomb High School in Holcomb, KS where she graduated in May 1956; she was valedictorian of her class of 15 students. She went to Garden City Junior College (now Garden City Community College), then Emporia State Teacher’s College (now Emporia State University), where she graduated in May 1960 with a degree in Business with a minor in Music. At Emporia State, she pledged into the Alpha Sigma Alpha women’s sorority. Her college graduation was one (1) week before her brother’s graduation, a small joke she enjoyed giving her older brother grief about. J
Her first job was a secretary for Phillips 66 in Bartlesville, OK. There she met Jerry Middlebusher at a YMCA dance. They married in June 1962 and moved to Stillwater, OK until Jerry finished his degree in Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University. They moved to Springhill, LA in 1963 where they purchased their first home and had Stephen (died as an infant), Mark and Julie. They moved to nearby Shongaloo, LA in 1972 until Jerry was transferred to International Paper’s Mobile Mill in July 1977. The family moved to Fairhope, AL in December 1977 where both kids graduated from Fairhope High School. In January 1995, they moved to Daphne, AL and lived on a 10 acre farm until her passing.
Karen spent eleven (11) years as the full-time organist at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope and an additional ten (10) years as the full-time pianist at the Daphne United Methodist Church. She also played at numerous other churches in both Baldwin and Mobile counties as a substitute and in many weddings and funerals. She was an active member of the Baldwin Senior Travelers, having visited over 20 foreign countries and planned other trips. She was also a member of the Welcome Wagon and various bridge clubs. She leaves behind her husband of over 55 years, Jerry; two kids, Mark (Shelle) and Julie (Greg); her older brother, Ron (Colette); and three (3) grandchildren, David, Deanna and Dillon.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 545 South Mobile St in Fairhope, AL.
