In Loving Memory

Harold Oakley Darling, age 94, of Fairhope, AL; formerly of Hinckley, IL passed away at Daphne, AL surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. He was born on October 8, 1923 in Cortland, IL the son of Leon A. and Emma (Johnson) Darling.

Harold was united in marriage on November 3, 1951 to the former Florence Jeannette Hilliard and they spent the next 48 years together until her passing on June 13, 2000. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and cousin who will be missed by his family and friends.

Harold served his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy stationed in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Harold held numerous jobs throughout his adult life from driving a milk truck, mason contractor and finally retiring from Circle Chemical Company, Hinckley, IL in 1988. He was a life-long member of the Lions Club and American Legion.

During his retirement years, Harold and Florence enjoyed traveling through the southern United States in their RV visiting friends and various campgrounds. During these travels they discovered Rainbow Plantation Campground in Summerdale, AL. It was at the Rainbow Plantation where Harold made his permanent residence after the passing of Florence in 2000. He thoroughly enjoyed his independent lifestyle in his RV until relocating to the Brennity of Fairhope Assisted Living in 2016.

He is survived by his son, Gerald (Jolene) Darling of Arlington, TX; his daughter, Martha (Gerald) Womack of Aurora, IL; his six grandchildren, Meghan (Cody) White of Tucson, AZ, Amy (Zbynek) Vales of Prague, Czech Republic, Robert Darling of Arlington, TX, Jason Womack of Aurora, IL, Jill Womack of New York City, NY, and Jeremy (Jaime) Womack of Bolingbrook, IL; his two great-grandsons, Oliver Laurence White and Benjamin Lee Womack.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Emma Darling; his wife, Florence J. Darling; his brother, Everett A. Darling; and a sister-in-law, Doris M. Darling.

A private celebration of life graveside service will be held at a future date. Interment of ashes will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Hinckley, IL.
