In Loving Memory
July 30, 1933 – November 21, 2019
Odie (Odilia) Winberg Soper, age 86, a native of Panama Republic of Panama, and a longtime resident of Daphne, Alabama.
Date of birth is July 30, 1933 and date of death is November 21, 2019. Place of death was Mobile Infirmary, Mobile, Alabama.
Odie graduated from Maria Imaculada Catholic Academy and later also graduated from Balboa High School, Canal Zone in 1954. She met the love of her life in high school and seven years later, married him. She obtained her United States citizenship in 1962 while attending classes at Ohio University.
Odie was a wonderful daughter, sister to an identical twin and 5 other siblings, wife, mother and grandmother and valued employee. She passed away, after a short illness. Her greatest joy involved her family and she was loved by her many friends and neighbors. Her interests revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren. She worked at various jobs including the Military, Panama Canal Zone College and for a bilingual newspaper in Atlanta, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Glen Winberg.
However heartbroken, we choose to focus on her wonderful life.
She and her high school sweetheart, Cleveland C. Soper were married for 62 wonderful years and their love affair never ended. She left behind two beautiful and successful children, Michael Todd (married to Rachel Soper) and Karen Ann (husband, Robbie Robins). She had 7 grandchildren; Andrew Soper, Zoe Weston, Ellie Waibel, Mia Waibel, Tess Waibel, Ruby Waibel and Brandon Welch: 4 great grandchildren; Wyatt and Adeline Welch, Silas and Nora Weston.
Odie is also survived by 5 siblings; her twin sister, Alicia Winberg Hill, Mildred Winberg Quinley, Glen Winberg, Jr, Ernie Winberg and Debbie Winberg Fleming and many nieces and nephews. She was truly blessed her entire life and now joins her mother, Esther Winberg; father, Glen Winberg; and brother, Rolando Winberg, and host of other relatives in heaven.
Services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, November 23, 2019 at The Church of Latter-Day Saints, 28721 County Road 13, Daphne, AL, 36526. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Odie’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, www.donate.lls.org/lls/donate. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com.
