In Loving Memory

September 9, 1962 – September 21, 2020

 

Matthew Maurice Spisak, 58, of Chickasaw, Alabama, formerly of New Orleans, LA and a native of Portsmouth, VA, passed away Monday, September 21, 2020 after a prolonged illness. 

He is survived by his father, Thomas James Spisak of Mobile, AL; brothers, Thomas (Janis), Mark of MA., Dana (Carrie), Derek of Mobile, AL; sisters, Jeri Fraser (Frank) of MA., and Valerie Ogle (Bob) of Chickasaw, AL, as well as nieces, nephews, and his extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Diane Bratton Spisak; nephew Benjamin Reed, and special lady friend, Lori Zastrow.

Matthew was a graphic artist. He graduated from Ocean Springs High School, MS and Ringling College of Art and Design, Sarasota, FL. He worked in New York City, Atlanta, and New Orleans. He enjoyed travel, studied the French language as an adult and visited France several times to stand in front of The Mona Lisa only to take photos of onlookers. He enjoyed sports, was an exceptional athlete, played any musical instrument he picked up. Matt loved music and designed album art. He was especially obsessed with Lucinda Williams and Emmy Lou Harris. He worked on motion picture productions and was seen in an episode of Anthony Bourdain, “A Cook’s Tour,” in New Orleans. He did artwork for Andrew Young of Georgia, Hank Aaron, The Atlantic, Morris Bart- “One call, That’s All”. 

Matt will be recognized during the St. Anne’s Procession in New Orleans. To honor him, donations may be made to the Historic New Orleans Collection (www.hnoc.org)
