Doris Pitts Dillon Moreno died unexpectedly on November 4, 2020 in Pensacola, FL, the day before her 66th birthday.
She is survived by her children, Candese Moreno Olán and Antionette Marie Moreno of Fairhope, AL and Jacqueline Moreno Roland of Hattiesburg, MS; two sons in law, Javier Olán & Michael Roland; a host of grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Parchman of Covington, LA, and Donna Fontenot of Ville Platte, LA; two brothers, Larry Pitts of Fairhope, AL, and Lamar Pitts of Orange Park, FL; a host of nieces and nephews; her best friend, Kathy Harvey; and her most favorite companion, Bugsy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Denson & Eunice Pitts, three sisters, Sue Vidrine, Margaret Pecot, and Debbie LeMaire and two loving husbands, James “Larry” Dillon and Francisco Moreno,, Jr.
Doris was born to the late Denson & Eunice Pitts on November 5, 1954, in Laurel, MS. She graduated from Delgado Community College with a degree in accounting. She spent her younger adult years doing accounting for various companies in the oil field industry in and around New Orleans, LA. In 1991, after moving to Columbia, MS, she worked for Carter & Mullings, L&J Construction, culminating her career as the office manager of Singley Environmental. Doris raised three strong, independent women and encouraged them to pursue a variety of interests.
Doris was a woman who lived life to the fullest. She rode motorcycles, ATVs, and horses. She played fastpitch softball, starting a legacy of catchers followed by her youngest daughter and three of her grandsons. She completed an accounting degree attending night school while raising three children and working full time. She was never bashful about singing karaoke and could cut a rug like no other. Her children and grandchildren will cherish the quilts and afghans handmade by her over the years. She passed these phenomenal skills down to her daughters and granddaughters. She was known by many names, Ma, Dory, Momo, and Maw-Maw, but most importantly she was known as our rock, the matriarch of our family, who was always there regardless the need, and will be sorely missed.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, November 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Doris’ life. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 AM.
