In Loving Memory

September 15, 1951 – November 8, 2020

James Barry Yarbrough, age 69, a native of Cullman, Alabama, and a resident of Loxley, Alabama, entered his Heavenly rest on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at his home around 9 p.m.  Barry was born on Saturday, September 15, 1951, in Cullman, Alabama.

Barry was an active member of Loxley Church of God where he served on the Pastor’s Council and was a treasured musician and singer for their Praise and Worship Team.  He enjoyed “doing God’s Work,” and was always eager to help with any project that needed to be done.

Barry was blessed to be a Special Needs Bus Driver for Robertsdale Elementary School and he loved sowing into his students.  He was a Retired Major with the Alabama Army National Guard with 23 years of service.  He was a 1969 Graduate of West Point High School, Cullman, Alabama and earned a Bachelor of Business Degree from Faulkner University in 1995.  He was an avid hunter and was a member of River Run Hunting Club.  Barry loved being outdoors and was in one of his “happy places” when he was in the woods hunting.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Harmon and Wilma Yarbrough; his mother-in-law, Verna Hines Nickens; grandparents, EE and Trudy Yarbrough and Robert and Nancy Cruise; brother-in-law, Johnny Mead, Jr.  and nephew, Cary Mead, all of Cullman, Alabama.

Barry is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Brenda Evans Yarbrough, Loxley, Alabama; daughters,  Brandie Yarbrough Williams (Sam), Savannah, Georgia, Halie Yarbrough Jones (Kevin), Robertsdale, Alabama; brothers, Keith (Jill) Yarbrough, Cullman, Alabama, Tim Yarbrough, Hartselle, Alabama; sister-in-law, Carol Evans Mead, Cullman, Alabama; grandchildren,  Samantha and Michael Waugh, Savannah, Georgia, Cadence and Kye Jones, Robertsdale, Alabama, Riley and Jacob Williams, Savannah, Georgia; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, and friends.

Barry loved God with all his heart.  He was an amazing husband, Dad, Pawpaw, Brother, and friend.  He will be greatly missed by all who loved him and knew him.

Barry loved sharing his testimony of the journey he had been on for the past seven years since being diagnosed with appendiceal cancer in hopes that he could help someone have a brighter day.  He and Brenda traveled to many different places, all of which were prayed about before the trip was even planned.  Through his journey, Barry never met a stranger, he was always eager to share a kind word or a scripture with someone who was struggling.

The Yarbrough Family would like to say “thank you” to all the doctors and nurses that helped them navigate through this journey and especially to ComfortCare of Baldwin County for all the encouraging words and guidance.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Loxley Church of God, 5220 N Hickory Street, Loxley, Alabama 36551 on Saturday, November 21, 2020.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
