In Loving Memory

February 28, 1940 – December 26, 2020

Charles F. Kelly “Captain”, 80, a native of Waynesboro, MS and a resident of Daphne, AL, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020 surrounded by his two daughters, two sons-in-law and granddaughter.

Captain was a graduate of Murphy High School and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in business.  Some of Captain’s fondest memories were travelling to Pebble Beach and Lake Tahoe to play golf.  He was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide Football fan.  He loved going to the casinos, playing golf and dinner with family and friends.

He loved to travel and took one cruise with his wife and said he would never go back because it didn’t have a golf course.  He enjoyed time he spent playing dominos with the guys at the 19th Hole and Papa George’s in years past.  After his wife passed away, he spent the next 11 years with his dog, Kensley.   Later in life he converted to Catholicism and enjoyed studying the Bible and watching Les Feldick on his computer daily.

Captain was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela S. Kelly; parents, Samuel and Maurice Fleming and George Kelly; sister, Sue Flowers and nephew, Keith Malinauskas.

He is survived by two daughters, Tambra (Sean) Sluder of Spanish Fort, AL and Julie (Craig) Hewett of Daphne, AL; grandchildren, David Kelly Robison, Mallory E. Gregorius and Matthew Sluder; great-grandchildren, Makenna Robison and Alex Sluder; siblings, Nadine Mosley and Robert Fleming; sister-in-law, Jamie Robinson; great aunts, Pat Hewitt, Teen Pitts; special cousins, William “Bill” Carney and Shirley Carney; and his best man and best friend, Eddie Mitchell; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL.  The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Jubilee Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers for the service will be David Kelly Robinson, Lee Anderson, Joel Nobles, Rob Fleming, Michael Martinez and Richard Watters.  Honorary pallbearers will be William “Bill” Carney, Eddie Mitchell, Jerry Hewett, Victor DeJohn, Mark Carney, James Kelly, Dr. Michael Meshad and Matthew Sluder, Ben Sluder, and all past owners of the 19th Hole.
