Cheryl Kilgore Mims, 71, a resident of Fairhope, AL passed away on January 22, 2023, at Saad’s Hospice Facility.

Cheryl was born to V.C. “Johnnie” and Paul Kilgore in Selma, Alabama. She was the youngest of 13 children.  Cheryl worked for many years in the cafeteria at Edgewood School in Selma. And then followed her daughters to Nashville, where she worked in the employee café at Gaylord Opryland Hotel.  She retired and moved back to Selma and then to Spanish Fort to take care of her daughter, Brenda, and be near her granddaughters.

Cheryl loved children and spent many years keeping children in her family and extended family. She was an avid collector of Goodwill finds and free stuff. She was always looking to find things to gift to others.

Cheryl is preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Kilgore Girgis; mother, Johnnie” Grindle; sisters, Brenda Moore Davis, Mary Church, Bettye Dawkins, and Jean Smitha; brothers, Gary Kilgore, Franklin Kilgore and Paul L. Kilgore.; niece, Michelle Miley, nephews; Steve Dawkins, Gary Dawkins, and great-nephews, Colby D. Miley, Wade Locke, and Austin Banks.

She is survived by her daughter, Alysia Davis (Frank); her son, William Glenn Odom (Jackie); grandchildren, Brianna Girlie, Kelsey Ellis, Marisa Davis, Cheyanne Davis and Angela Odom Hubbard (Brooke), Teresa Atchison (Jerry), William Odom (Shelby), Graham Odom and Charles Royster; two great granddaughters; sisters, Sherry Banks and Barbara Thompson; brothers, William Wesley Kilgore (Hazel), Charles Kilgore and Claude Kilgore; many nieces, including, Angie (Leo) Cooper, Tammy Terrell, and Stacy Banks; great nieces, Shana (Taylor) Lane, Harlee Miley (Corey Burge), Kayla (Gary) Elbon, Shannon Cooper, Samantha (Sam) Bledsole; nephews, Casey (Patrice) Kilgore, Michael (Sona) Blue; and many great nephews including, Isaac Kilgore, Wesley Kilgore, and friends.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at Saad’s Hospice Retreat for taking care of Cheryl for the last 3 months.  Special thanks also to Hughes Funeral Home for taking care of the family, and for all the great friends who contributed to help with expenses. We are so blessed and grateful to you all!
