Cleveland Ernest Smith, of Gulf Shores and former Mayor of Greenville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the age of 84.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Judy Smith; his two sons, Ernie Smith Jr. of Gulf Shores and Lannie Smith (Sherri) of Orange Beach; his grandchildren Nick, Austin, and Beckham; and great-grandchildren Cooper and Andi Joe. He is also survived by his brothers, Larry Smith (Yvonne) of Gulf Shores and Tommy Smith (Laurie) of Foley; and his twin sisters, Norma Parker (Jack) of Foley and Nancy Schroll of Pace, Florida.
Cleveland was preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Evelyn Smith.
A private family service was held on June 23, 2025.

So sorry for my cousin Ernest passing, we have many good times together our families always visiting back & forth, summers we would stay 2 wks @ each other’s house. Love & prayers for the Family! RIP MY BROTHER! Will be missed but never be forgotten!!!

I am thinking of Mr. Ernest’s family at this most difficult time. I first met Mr. Ernest when I came to Greenville in 1993 to open the LBW Community College, Greenville Campus. He was always so encouraging and supportive of the college. Not only will his family miss him, but his many friends will also….
Ernie was a great friend and mentor to me. He was really smart and politically savvy and I learned a lot from him. He was my friend and I respected him immensely. I’ll always remember how much fun we had playing golf. My sincere condolences to the Smith family.
