Agnes Elizabeth Day Hessin, a resident of Lillian, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the age of 91.

Agnes was born in Denver, Colorado, on January 25, 1934, to Theodore Alfred Day and Lena Sophia Day. She was raised in the Day Mortuary in downtown Denver. She had two older brothers, Teddy and Jerry, and one younger sister, Tricia, all of whom she would describe as “wonderful” and her “best friends.” Agnes loved to tell stories about her childhood growing up in a mortuary with her family in Denver.

Agnes moved away from Denver after marrying Jay Thomas Hessin in 1956. Life took Agnes and Tom many places together. They were married for 48 years when Tom passed away in 2005. Together, Agnes and Tom had three sons and one daughter, Tom Hessin (Diane) of Hickory, NC, Tricia Botson (Mike) of Garfield, AR, John Hessin (Paula) of Lillian, AL, and Jim Hessin (Cathy) of Mason, OH. Agnes had twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, whom she adored. Also surviving Agnes are her sister, Patricia Wagnor of Denver, CO; a special sister-in-law, Mary Jane Shimer of Fairhope, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the county.

Agnes lived a long, beautiful life filled with love for the Lord and service of others. Agnes was a devoted Catholic and was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne. She could be found in the adoration chapel or at Silver Saint gatherings. She also loved to play Bridge and Penny Canasta with her friends at the Senior Center. Agnes was a retired real estate agent, a wonderful caretaker to her husband for many years, and an incredible gardener.

Agnes moved to Daphne in April 2009. Agnes’s son, John, and his wife, Paula, were devoted caretakers to her as she grew older and needed more help. While in their care, she discovered one additional love late in life – a passion for Alabama Football and saying, “Roll Tide!”.

Agnes had a beautiful voice and a gentle presence that her family and friends will greatly miss.

A celebration of life for Agnes will take place on September 21, 2025. A memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne, AL, at 11:00 a.m.
