In Loving Memory

Alberta J. Richburg

March 25, 1937 - May 9, 2019

Alberta Jean Richburg, 82, of Mobile, died on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at her home.  She was born in Ashland, KY to Albert Douglas and Nellie Marie Henderson Douglas.

Alberta was a very creative lady.  For many years she was known as one who loved to bake and could make the very best carrot cake and red velvet cake you ever tasted!  Many a couple were blessed by her ability to make beautiful and delicious wedding cakes.  Gardening was her passion and she could grow just about anything.  She was very artistic and crafty as well, having sketched many pictures.  If she wasn’t drawing, she was working on her favorite crafted creation.  An avid reader, she often enjoyed reading good mystery thrillers.  She loved her fur babies, one of which was her absolute favorite Mother’s Day gift ever, her malti-poo, “Chewy” and her other fur baby, “Nikolai.”  Her family was her heart and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is predeceased by her parents; and her brother, James Douglas.

Leaving to cherish her memory are her two children, James Richburg and Robin Richburg, both of Mobile; four sisters, Joyce Anderson, Gulf Shores, AL, Ella Odom, Mobile, AL, Anna Slade, Laurel, MS and Debbie Wilhite, Gulf Shores, AL; and one brother, Albert Douglas, Jr., Mobile, AL.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., at Azalea Baptist Church, 4050 Halls Mill Rd, in Mobile.  The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Officiating will be Rev. Ray Anderson.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Association, 2029 B Airport Boulevard, Box 235, Mobile, AL 36609 or at or The COPD Foundation at

  1. Cassandra Love

Ms Jean will definitely be missed and has been. She was a great neighbor, always looked out for me. Until she got sick, she was always working in the yard and keeping it so beautiful. We had several conversations at the fence and on the phone. Many prayers for comfort and peace for Robin, Jamie and the rest of the family. May God hold you in his loving arms.
    God bless you all ❤️❤️
