Tribute

Mary Annie Merle Allison, a resident of Fairhope, AL, passed away on October 26, 2022, at the age of 91. Merle was born on September 21, 1931 in Greenville, AL, but moved to Point Clear as a child and lived there and in Fairhope for the remainder of her life.

She was affectionately known as Annie Merle, Mamaw, Sister Merle, and to many by an abbreviation of her names as “MAMA” which was a fitting title due to her selfless and nurturing nature. She was a woman of devout faith to Jesus and a committed member of her congregational family. She loved her family immensely. Merle was 1 of 6 siblings, the mother to 4 children and the matriarch of a long line of descendants including 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She had a loving and welcoming disposition and befriended anyone who came in contact with her. She held her friendships for the entirety of her lifetime and never forgot anyone she met. Many remember her for her love of sewing and the handmade gifts she took pleasure in making and distributing. She took joy in fishing in Mobile Bay, traveling, cooking, sewing and making crafts, quality time with her loved ones, but all who knew her will remember her most by her servant’s heart.

Merle was preceded in death by her parents, John Hilary Armstrong and Margie Armstrong Quinley; her husband of 44 years, James “Buck” Allison; as well two siblings, her brother, Leon Armstrong and sister, Sue Rice.

She is survived by her children, Jeannie Allison Fair (Jim Fair), Leslie Paul Allison (Andrea Allison), Lewis Anthony “Tony” Allison, and Cindy Allison Zebryk, and her siblings; Pearl Jansen, Francis Waldrup and Rayford Armstrong.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, October 31, 2022, at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, at 11:00 AM. I Can Still Hear Her Joyful Sound Of Her Voice.
I Still See Her Beautiful Smiling Face Is How I Wish To Remember Her. She Had A Delightful Laugh Too.
I Love You Aunt Merle Is The Last Words I Spoke To Her & She Said She Loved Me Too.
