Barbara Brasfield Dedeaux, 73, of Daphne, passed peacefully on the morning of December 23, 2019, just before sunrise.
Her life was filled with family, friends and a dedication to providing quality healthcare services in Baldwin and Tuscaloosa Counties.
Born in Tuscaloosa on May 21, 1946 to Toy Lea Morris and Robert Augustus Brasfield, she proudly attended the University of Alabama, married her high school sweetheart, Johnny Mack Dedeaux, and, together, they built their dream home on Lake Tuscaloosa. When not cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide or her South Highland “Golden Bears” softball team, the Tuscaloosa days were filled with her two sons and her passion for swimming, fishing and water skiing.
Professionally, Barbara worked exclusively in hospital and nursing home administration for almost 50 years. Shortly after graduation from The University, she began her work at Partlow State School in Tuscaloosa and then spent more than two and a half decades in leadership positions with DCH Health Systems. In the 1990s, the family moved south to Baldwin County and she helped lead Mercy Medical’s faith-based end-of-life care facility for hospice patients on the Eastern Shore. A new decade found her in the Director’s office at Robertsdale Healthcare where her passion for serving both the patients and their families would write the final chapter of her remarkable career.
Officially retiring in 2010, “Bobbie”, as she was known to family and friends, was widely celebrated in her industry and was well known for her strength and leadership. She incorporated her strong faith and family values into her work and emphasized a cooperative atmosphere, while setting high standards for service, efficiency and patient care.
Just two years ago, she was preceded in death by Johnny Mack Dedeaux, her husband of almost 50 years. “Bobbie” is survived by her two sons, John Bryan Dedeaux (37) (Allison Elizabeth) and Thomas Lee Dedeaux (41) (Rebecca Elizabeth); her sister, Martha B. Scotch (Wayne Joseph) of Shelby County; her brother, Robert Dale Brasfield (Kathy Perry) of Montgomery; and her grandchildren, Lindsay Smith (27) (Jay), Alexis Jade Dedeaux (16), Jackson Cobain Dedeaux (7), Johnathon Cash Dedeaux (5), and Evelyn Claire Dedeaux (2).
The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staffs of Covenant Care Hospice, Willowbrooke Court at Westminster Village, Golden Rule Senior Care, Beth Gibson and the other healthcare providers of Baldwin County who carried on Barbara’s commitment to quality service and love for the patients and their families.
To celebrate and remember her life, the family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the new location of Hughes Funeral Home at 26209 Pollard Road in Daphne. A graveside service will follow on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019 at 11:00 at Memory Hill Gardens, 2200 Skyland Boulevard E., Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
