In Loving Memory
November 18, 1921 – August 10, 2014
Bonney Barnes Raney, a resident of Daphne, Alabama, left this earthly realm for the splendor of Heaven on Sunday, August 10, 2014, knowing that she was well-loved.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed and always remembered for her sense of humor and zest for life. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bay Minette where she and her husband sang in the choir for many years.
She was born on November 18, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri but lived her adult life in Southern California, eventually making her way to Alabama in 1983. In 1947, she met the love of her life, the late, Donald Van Raney, Sr., a tall blue-eyed handsome sailor on the beach in Santa Monica, California when he asked to take her picture. She later found out that there had been no film in his camera and it was all just a ruse to get her phone number. They were happily married for 61 years.
She is survived by her children, Bonney (Don) Kimmick of Spanish Fort, Peggy (William) Wilkins of Daphne and Donald Van Raney, Jr., of Fairhope; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Per her request, a graveside service will be held at Bay Minette Cemetery at 4:00pm, Tuesday, August 12, 2014 with Dr. Jack Hester presiding.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the North Baldwin Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 190, Bay Minette, AL 36507. Condolences for the family may be expressed at hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home & Crematory, 7951 American way, Daphne, AL.
May peace be with her loving family as well.
Our hearts & prayers go out to you and your family at this time of such sorrow. May you find peace and comfort in God’s love. Sharing in your sorrow with love and friendship.
In loving memory of Bonney, my sweet and beautiful friend.
In loving memory of Bonney, my sweet and beautiful friend. With warm regards to her family.
I met Bonney when I was 7 years old shortly after she married my cousin, Donald Raney. My mother was his Aunt Maud, sister of his mother. We were a very close family and I was so sorry to hear of Bonney’s passing. She lived a full and happy life. My thoughts and prayers go out to her children and their families at this time of grieving. May our loving and Sovereign God be ever close to all of you and bless you with His love.
Thank you all for your warm thoughts and prayers on behalf of all of us. Mama is deeply missed, but we know she is with Dad now, and are so grateful for that. We have faith that we will see them both again one day, with the Lord, and all others who have gone one before. Thank you for your prayers.
Our heartfelt love and prayers go out to all the family members of Bonney Raney, most especially our dear friends, Bonney, Don and Kristen.
It was the 17th when I learned that Bonney had passed away. As an across-the-street neighbor in Lake Forest, I didn’t get well acquainted with Bonney, but when she first moved in, we visited often enough for me to appreciate her sense of humor and good nature. I wish I had known her earlier in our lives. My husband and I offer our sympathy to Don and his sisters and the rest of the family.
