In Loving Memory

Carol Glasgow

August 1, 1932 - October 15, 2023

Jean Carol Glasgow passed away peacefully in Daphne, Alabama on Sunday, October 15, 2023. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Carol is preceded in death by her spouse, MGen Harold Glyn Glasgow, parents, John and Winnie Cunningham and sister, Vera Pogue.

Carol was a devoted mother to her three children, John (Regena) with daughters, Jamie and Janna (Paul Weatherford); Jeffrey Glasgow with children, Johnathan, Heather (Hugh Marshall-Tate), Fiona (Nick Bellamy), Joel and stepchildren, Hayley (Adam Ferguson) and Michael Dewar; Jennifer (Kevin Thistlethwaite) with their daughters, Hayden and Hannah, and sons, Matthew (Nicola) and Luke (Claire); and her very special sororal niece, Suzanne (Jeff Flanagan); as well as her great-grandchildren, James, Henry, Kiara, Layla, Tia, Lucie, Ross, Mollie, Jorgie and Meila, who were her pride and joy.

Born in Tuscaloosa in 1932, Carol pursued her passion for education and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama in 1953. She dedicated her early career to teaching elementary school in Gadsden, Alabama, and Arlington, Virginia. As a military wife, she supported Harold during his 36 years of military service in many different locations around the world.  He credited her as the primary reason for his successful career.

Carol had a spirit of adventure and explored the world through her travels often accompanied by her family. She was an avid collector of nativity scenes, which beautifully reflected her appreciation for her Christian faith as well as different cultures and traditions. In her leisure time, she bowled on many weekly teams, but lived for playing golf and experienced the thrill of achieving her first and only hole-in-one in 2014.

Carol touched the lives of all who knew her with kindness, warmth, and generosity. Her legacy will forever be remembered and cherished by her family and friends.  Roll Tide!!

Expressions of condolence may be made at Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard of Daphne, AL.

“Mrs. G” was a wonderful lady, the General’s wife, my next door neighbor in Okinawa for a year. We ran in the Hash House Harriers together (no one could believe a General’s wife would do that!), shopped for bargains in numerous countries together (whoever had spent the least on their outfit to go to dinner won). We sat across from each other in a fancy Japanese restaurant one time when a bowl of warm water with what looked like 3 Rice Krispies floating in it was served. The General immediately started washing his hands in it. Tony, the young Lt seated next to me, immediately picked it up and drank it. Mrs G and I met eyes and laughed so hard we fell backward off of our pillows! Thank you, Mrs G for showing me that an amazingly gracious hostess and true lady can have a twinkle in her eye and a zest for life, too! The world and so many lives are better and happier for your having been here!!

I first met Ms. Carol through golf and for years she drove me to Ladies Golf Days when I was a junior. She was a pure woman of wisdom. I aspire to be like her when I get that age. She was full of life, love and charity. I will miss her dearly.
