In Loving Memory

Carol W. Saltz

November 20, 1946 - March 11, 2022

Tribute

Mrs. Carol Ann Saltz, longtime resident of Fairhope, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at the age of 75.

Carol was the daughter of William “Whit” and Mary Jo Whitman. She was also the eldest of four daughters. Carol was born in Reno, Nevada, but then moved to Enterprise, Alabama. After her childhood, Carol moved to Fairhope where she soon met her late husband, Leon Saltz. The two grew a business, a business many parents and grandparents know well, Eastern Shore Early Childhood Center, which was Carol’s everyday life. She watched most of Fairhope’s children gain maturity and knowledge from her wonderful staff, and even through her own hands, as she was the facilities owner, director, and kindergarten and first grade teacher.

Carol also played a huge role in the community alongside her efforts in the childcare industry. Carol devoted her Sundays and Wednesdays to the Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and youth groups. She was also on the board of the Fairhope Single Tax, which has constructed some of Fairhope’s greatest landmarks and legacies. Her efforts in this community will be greatly remembered for generations to come by far and many. We love you Mrs. Carol

Carol Saltz is survived by her son, Tatum Saltz; and her grandson, Hayden Saltz.

Written by Hayden Saltz, grandson of Carol Saltz.

The family invites everyone to a special candlelight service to celebrate Carol at 7:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 545 S Mobile Street, in Fairhope, AL 36532, with Rev. Matt McCullough officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Expressions of condolence for the family may be made at www.hughesfh.com. Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home & Crematory, 26209 Pollard Rd., Daphne, AL, 36526.

I knew Leon when we were in high school. He was. Good friend then and has obviously made a large impact on the Fairhope Family.

As we end our lives, there is nothing better to be said than “he was a good man.”

We mourn the passing of our beloved MsCarol but her heart and spirit live on with us. She was our mother, teacher and friend. She impacted so many people with her love of Family God and teaching. Christmas was her passion as many remember the Christmas house upstairs and of course the Christmas Program. Her brightness will never dim because her spirit is bright and shining through generations of Fairhope children. She not only taught them to read but how to handle life as well. She was always positive”Can’t” was not a word she used “I CAN” if I try was more appropriate. It has been my pleasure to work along side her for many years and my honor to continue her legacy at the Center.

Carol Saltz was an educating force. My daughters attend university on academic scholarships. Much of their education began at the Saltz Academy.

Showing up early to read with the other parents in the mornings reinforced a family effort toward education and learning that worked.

Carol was a disciplinarian and she loved her work.
Many of us have benefited from that 💘.

    Godspeed to the family.
