Charles Eugene ‘ Cork ‘ Norman, loving husband, father and grandfather, a native of Harrisburg , Il , and a long time resident of Pensacola , Fl, born March 3, 1929 died Tuesday, April 10 2012.

Cork was a Korean War Veteran serving as a Sergeant with the Army Corp of Engineering where he was stationed in Alaska constructing roads, military bases and radar facilities. After returning home and marrying Geneva Ruth Simpson, they traveled to Houma , LA , where he worked in the oil fields before settling in Pensacola , FL , where he was employed by Armstrong World Industries as a mechanic until his retirement. In retirement, Cork and Ginny traveled extensively throughout the country until Ginny’s death in October 2000.

He is preceded in death by his parents Roger Q and Alta Mae Norman, his beloved wife Geneva Ruth ‘Ginny’ Norman, brothers William Norman, Willard Norman and sister-in-law Noveda Norman.

Charles is survived by his sister-in-law Bonnie Norman of Houma, La; daughter Sue Gene Norman and her daughters Eleanor Ruth Norman and Katie Sue Van Etten; his son, Sam George, his cherished daughter-in-law Pamela Diane and their children, Matthew Christopher, Timothy Michael, Nicholas Daniel and adopted granddaughters, Stephanie Encinas, Meredith Bodet and his special Cookie Queen, Katelyn Medley. His first Great-Grandson is due to be born to Timothy and Stephanie in August.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:15 am on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola NAS.

The Norman family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all of his friends and caregivers at Eastern Shore Rehabilitation and Health Center (formerly Mercy Medical) for the loving care and respect so freely given to our father and their continued support of his family during this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charles Norman’s honor to the Community Hospice of Baldwin County at 2770 S. McKenzie Street, Suite C, Foley, AL 36535(www.comhospice.com).
