Charles Joe Dumas, a resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away at the William F. Green State Veterans Home, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the age of 83.

Charles was a Colonel (Ret.) in the United States Air Force for 28 years and 11 months from 1961 -1990 as a Navigator.  Charles was a proud patriot who loved his military career.  He was also a Vietnam Veteran, C-5 Flying Squadron Commander.  He received the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Meritorious Service Medal.

Charles was a member of Baldwin County MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), and Order of Daedalians (The Premier Fellowship for Military Aviators). In his spare time, he loved watching football, playing golf, skiing and woodworking.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Gaynell Broussard Dumas; his children, Bill (Kim) Dumas of North Carolina and Connie Dumas Walsh of Fairhope; two grandchildren, Amanda Preston and Kyle Walsh; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Clay Dumas and Rebecca Quintana.

A graveside service with full military honors, will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 34904 State Hwy. 225 in Spanish Fort, at 10AM. Following the graveside service a celebration of life will be held at Fairhope United Methodist Church, 155 S. Section Street in Fairhope, at 11:30AM. There will be a time of refreshments and fellowship following the service.

    Chuck Dumas set the bar very high. He exemplified caring by helping, and doing everything the best he could for his God, Family and Country. I thought of Chuck as a friend and valued mentor. Always faithful in whatever endeavor.
