Nolan “Chuck” Gamble, III

July 13, 1953 - December 29, 2021


Nolan “Chuck” Gamble, III, 68, a longtime resident of Daphne, AL passed away, Wednesday, December 29, 2021. He was born on July 13, 1953, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to Nolan Gamble, II and Elner Ruth Smith.

Chuck was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of South Alabama. He was a member of the Technology Team at AMVAC Chemical Corporation in Axis, AL since December 1, 2009. Chuck served as Quality Manager. In a note from his employer, he stated, “He was highly esteemed and respected by his colleagues, and was a valued member of the quality assurance team. We were privileged to have such an extraordinary man on our team, but also as part of our family.”

Being a man of faith, Chuck was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Christ the King Men’s Cursillo. He loved being outdoors. He was a member of the Bay Area Runners Club and the Fairhope Yacht Club. On any beautiful day, you could find him on the water kayaking, sailing, or fishing. He loved watching football, listening to jazz music, he was quite an avid reader, but was also a home brew master. He will always be remembered as one who loved his family deeply.

He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Debbie O. Gamble of Daphne; his daughter, Alyson Marie Gamble, Boston, Massachusetts; two brothers, Christopher C. (Karin) Gamble, and Jeffrey Gamble, both of Mobile; his godchildren, Ollie B. Hopton, Noah A. Ellerbrock, Evan D. Ellerbrock; and his beloved fur baby, Sophie.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 711 College Avenue in Daphne. Celebrant will be Fr. Gabe Mills.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to  5 Rivers Delta Center, 30945 5 Rivers Blvd., Spanish Fort, AL  36527,  E. O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation, 300 Blackwell St Ste 102, Durham, NC 27701, or The National Book Foundation, 90 Broad St, STE 604, New York, NY, 10004.
