Clara Simms Street, a longtime resident of Daphne, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011 after a lengthy illness. She was born on January 29, 1926 to Benjamin and Lena Simms in Belforest.

Married to the love of her life, Ross, Clara traveled the United States and parts of Europe as a Navy wife. Once retired and returned to her beautiful Alabama, she became quite active in community affairs. She was a founding member of the Lake Forest Community Club and active for 30 years, a member of the Lake Forest Garden Club for 28 years and a member of the Fleet Reserve Auxilary Association. As well as holding various offices in these organizations over the years, she arranged and participated in many special events. The projects she

most cherished were being the Chairperson of the annual Mercy Medical Christmas Party and dying and hiding eggs for the childrens’ Easter egg hunts . Always happy to visit with classmates, she joined the committees to organize the Fairhope High Class of 1944 reunions. Clara loved cooking, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved time with her

cherished grandchildren.

Clara is survived by her devoted and beloved husband, Ross, her son, Butch Street of Denver, Co.daughters Marcia Kennedy of Ocean Springs, Miss., Mary Elliott of San Diego, Calif., and Essie Martin of Salinas, Calif. Her stepdaughter, Sharon Deardon, died in Sept. of this year. She also has six grandchildren, Ian, Rhea, Kelly, Samantha, Noah, Rachelle, Sarah and Ryan as well as nine

great grandchildren. Her surviving siblings are Roy Simms and Mildred Foster of Belforest, and Edward Simms of Fairhope. She also has cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family wishes to thank her dearest neighbors, Dottie and Richard Zimmer, for the loving care they have given through the years.

The funeral services will be held at 6:00 on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at Hughes Funeral Home. The family will recieve friends beginning at 4:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Parkinson Disease Association. Notes of condolence may be made to the family at hughesfh.com.
