August 14, 1941 – March 20, 2017
Daniel Edward Phillips, 75, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017. Daniel grew up in West Warwick, Rhode Island and was a football and basketball star in high school. After high school Daniel joined the Marine Corps and served two Mediterranean tours. Daniel managed lumber companies for years. After retiring he opened Big Dan’s Army Navy store in Douglas, GA. He played rugby for many years well into his 60’s, allowing him to travel all over the world with his rugby team. Daniel loved playing bridge and poker, had a passion for convertible sports cars, enjoyed practical jokes and pranks and was a great storyteller.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Wilson Phillips; his parents, John Henry and Isabelle Boudreau Phillips; and sister, Nancy.
Daniel is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Lee Phillips and Jessica Phillips (Chris) King; stepchildren, Beverly (Randy), Anthony, Patrick and Joanne; grandchildren, Sarah Catherine, Caroline, Julia Thomas, Isabelle, Ava, Randon and Megan; loving companion, Karen Zyriek and many other relatives and friends.
A private service will be held for the family. Relatives and friends are welcome to celebrate Daniel’s life at the home of Chris and Jessica King from 12:30 – 2:30pm on Friday, March 24, 2017.
