Danny Erwin Johnson, born December 10, 1952, in Chickasaw, Alabama, to Charles Curtis Johnson and Lois Marie Johnson, passed away on August 29, 2026, leaving behind a life filled with faith, family, hard work, quiet wisdom, kindness, and a love for building, creating and nature.

At the age of five, Danny and his family moved to Spanish Fort, Alabama, where he grew up, built lifelong memories, and eventually began a family of his own. Danny married the love of his life, Suzy LeGear Johnson, and together they raised three children: Kristy Erin Snell, Sandy Danielle Greuel, and Danny Erwin Johnson II. His family continued to grow, and his eight grandchildren became his pride and joy: Jobey Vincent Greuel, Garrek James Snell, Elijah Jacob Greuel, Penelope Jane Snell, Jude Levi Greuel, Elliot Charles Greuel, Danny Erwin Johnson III, and David Eli Johnson. As a proud Paw Paw he saw a little bit of himself in each and every one of them.

Later in life, Danny and Suzy moved to Bay Minette, Alabama, where they built their farmhouse and enjoyed the peace and simplicity of country living. Danny was happiest when he was busy with projects, solving a problem, or building something. Above all, he loved the Lord and had a passion to share that love.

Danny was a quiet man, but he had plenty to say. He was a deep thinker who could spend hours or even days working through a problem until he found a solution. He was truly a “Jack of all Trades.” There was very little he couldn’t figure out, and if he didn’t know how to do something, he would simply find a way.

He was a steady and constant presence in the lives of those he loved. He was faithful to his family and to the people who mattered most to him. Danny also had a generous heart. He often couldn’t pass someone on the side of the road who appeared to be struggling without turning around to give them money, even when they hadn’t asked for anything. Helping people was simply part of who he was.

Danny also loved to pick on those he loved, including his dog, Charlie. He loved Charlie, he aggravated Charlie and he spoiled Charlie. He often found himself as the only person laughing at his own joke and receiving that familiar look from Suzy letting everyone know exactly what she thought.

Danny’s love was often shown not through many words, but through his presence, his willingness to help, his generosity, and the countless things he built, fixed, figured out, and did for the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the lessons he taught, the kindness he showed others, and the memories he made that will surely be treasured for generations to come.

Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Suzy LeGear Johnson; his children, Kristy Erin Snell and her husband, James Christopher Snell, Sandy Danielle Greuel and her husband, Jacob Vincent Greuel, and Danny Erwin Johnson II and his wife, Sarah Kralik-Johnson; his eight grandchildren, Jobey, Garrek, Elijah, Penelope, Jude, Elliot, Danny III, and Eli; and his siblings, Karen Restrepo, Gwendolyn Green, and Randall Johnson.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the family and friends who were blessed to know and love him.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, at 10:30AM. There will be a time of visitation with family and friends before the service, beginning at 9:30AM. Interment will follow at Wilson Cemetery in Spanish Fort, Alabama.
