David “Mike” Taylor

David Michael “Mike” Taylor, a native of Decatur and Shelbyville, Illinois, and a resident of Daphne, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the age of 61.

Mike was born on September 19, 1962, to James L. Taylor and Patricia A. Taylor in Decatur, Illinois. He was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School, class of 1980.

Mike served in the US Marine Corp. He worked for True Value Hardware Store from 1983 – 2004.  Mike and Kathy were the owners of The Spigot in Shelbyville, Illinois, from 2005 – 2023. He was a member of Pana Country Club, where he could be found many days playing golf with his buddies, as well as the Elks Lodge #1261 and the Moose Lodge #1294.  There were so many dear friends, who became more like family, in Decatur, Shelbyville, Illinois and Daphne, Alabama, that have left a special mark on the lives of Mike and Kathy. 

Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, James L. Taylor; his stepfather, Jack L. O’Donnell; sister, Shelly Floyd; brother, Jimmy Taylor; and his great-nephew.

He is survived by his life partner of 26 years, Katheryn F. Zeidler; his cherished mother, Patricia A. O’Donnell (Richard H. Lange); his adored daughter, Brittany Patrick (Mike), and precious grandchildren, Laken, Briggs and Saylor; his much loved son, David Michael Taylor, Jr. (Stephanie), and his precious grandchildren, James, Brighton and Logan; brothers-in-law, Jason Zeidler (Fanny Mellissa Zeidler), Jonathan Zeidler (Christine Zeidler), and Matt Winter; nieces and nephews, Dennis Zeidler (his “buddy”), Kristin Weed (Emerson), Greg Kennedy (Monica) and Daniel Kennedy; seven great nieces and nephews; along with many loved family members and lifelong friends.

As per Mike’s request, no formal service will be held.  However, there will be a celebration of his life planned in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mike’s memory to either Tunnels to Towers at https://t2t.org/ or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/

    I’ve only known Mike and Kathie for about three years but they seem like family. Mike always had a smile on his face and would usually whisper in my ear some little inside joke with me. His love for Kathie was so evident in the way they treated one another, A Love Like No Other! He is Loved and will be missed 💔
