In Loving Memory

May 12, 1934 – December 30, 2018

Daphne, AL

On December 30, 2018 David Royce Stewart, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went home to be with his Heavenly Father.  Royce was born on May 12, 1934 in Slip Up, Moulton County, Alabama and graduated from Decatur High School in 1952 where he met LaVerne Johnson, and their love story began.  On February 20, 1954, he married LaVerne Johnson, and their happy marriage continued for 64 ¾ years.  They raised three sons.

Royce retired from Liberty National Insurance Company in 1979 and then went into the car business.  He owned and retired from B & R Auto Sales.  Royce had a love for people that made everyone he met feel special.  He loved his sons and their wives like his daughters.  Royce had a beautiful singing voice.  He discovered his gift of voice and love for singing on LaVerne’s front porch while he was courting her.  LaVerne’s daddy, Alvin Johnson taught him to sing gospel music.  He sang with The Solid Rock Quartet for 21 years.  Royce was known for his quick wit, his kind and compassionate nature, and his love for Jesus.

Royce was preceded in death by his mother Nell, father David, and sister Jean.  He is survived by his loving wife LaVerne, his three sons, David (Marsha), Greg (Jill), and Royce (Stephanie), his grandchildren Heather and Whitney, Josh, Luke, and Kayla, and Matt and Brandon, his 7 great grandchildren, and his cousin Margie.

A special thanks to Comfort Care and Palm Gardens for caring so well for Royce during this time.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Eastern Shore Baptist Church with visitation from 9:00 – 11:00 am and the service to follow. Donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, www.stjude.org or by phone at (800) 478-5833. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com. Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne, AL is assisting the family.

The Stewart Family has my sincerest condolences, but rejoice with you that you will see him again someday, and that he feels no suffering. What a blessing Christians have with that kind of hope to comfort us.
