Debra Ann Leach Morrow died early in the morning on 6 January, 2026.
Debra was many things – a teacher, a Navy veteran, a gardener, a potter, a loving wife and best friend to David.
She loved to travel. She loved flowers. She loved working with children and continued to do so after retiring from the classroom, even as illness took its toll.
According to her wishes, no services are planned. Instead, she would want you to hug those you love and plant some flowers in your front yard. Go for a walk and visit a friend. Make some art. Or that phone call (you know the one). Look at beautiful things and take joy in what God has made. Help someone.
Instead of flowers and such, donate to cancer research, or any organization that tries to make this world a better place.
Remember, but don’t mourn.

I am so grateful I that I met Debra by chance, when I walked through the neighborhood and saw her working among the flowers in her beautiful front yard. We became friends who enjoyed lunches at local restaurants, vigorous conversation and laughter, exercise walks, and trips to gardening seminars. I will remember her for all the good things she brought to our friendship and to our community, and I will smile when I think of her.
David, I just heard today of Debra’s passing. I am so sorry. Debra and I shared some good laughs. I will remember Debra and her beautiful smile.! I am so saddened. My deepest condolences.

I met Debra at the 2023 MCMG Intern Class where I was her Mentor. In reality, she mentored me!
She always challenged me when we were working on a project… I’m so blessed to call her my friend! Lydia
She was always so kind and never met a stranger. Knowledgeable about the earth , and beyond always caring for others. Glad I met her for only a few years. She will be remembered as a true real caring lady.,RIP

I am so incredibly sad to hear of her passing. She was an incredibly kind woman and a dedicated, patient educator, despite my challenges with Spanish. If she ran into my mom, she was always sure to ask about me and pass along a kind word through her. I so appreciated getting to share a neighborhood with Debra and David in my adulthood and getting to pass each other on walks, enjoying her beautiful flowers as I drove by, or sharing a wave. And I will always remember her bright and kind smile. My condolences to you, David, and your families.
As the flowers bloom this spring, I will remember her and celebrate the beauty that God has given us.

I met Debra when we both enrolled in the 2023 master gardener course. At that point she was doing well. She didn’t mind getting her hands dirty and working just as hard as the guys.
I really got to know her working on some projects and I can tell you that she is with the LORD.
I had the pleasure of seeing her at MBG when I would work on the monthly meetings for the herb society. She told me that her cancer came back and if you know her this is not something new for her. She didn’t want to go through the chemo and etc and she had gone that route in the past.
She was a very strong individual and I personally think her faith gave her the strength to endure. We will all miss Debra
I remember working with her at the Japanese Gardens. She was a very hard working person and I enjoyed getting to meet her. What a smile!
I met this kind soul less than a year ago. We were in a dance class at Via Health Center. Her pleasant demeanor made me notice her. In addition to her demeanor, she was the only person in the class with dance shoes on. I walked to her and said
“ you know we aren’t that serious about this class.” We both laugh and a friendship emerged.
Over the next months we shared information about our lives and our relationship with the Lord.
She truly lived the life that God desires of us, love of others .
She did love the outdoors and gardening, and tried her best to convince me follow her lead. About a month ago we shared a day of water color painting in a park in Fairhope .. it was so peaceful and she took in all the beauty of God’s work . Although we talked multiple times after then ,that the day of peace and love is embedded in my memory .
I cannot end this memorial without mentioning the love she had for David. She said they were indeed made for each other, and if you ever saw them together , you know he felt the same way !
I’ll miss you Debra but I know you are at peace with the father!

May Mrs. Morrow rest in peace. I remember going to her home and her being a trusted coworker and friend to my mom. She will be missed. May God welcome her into his kingdom.

I knew Debra for five years. She will be missed, but her love and passion for life will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
David, I was saddened to her of her passing. She was such a delightful person! It was always a pleasure seeing her smiling face and her desire to educate young people. Praying for you!
I met Debra around 2011 in the Mobile dance scene. She leased an old building on Dauphin St where she established an after school program to teach high school students ballroom and Latin dance. Debra and I spent many afternoons practicing and teaching the kids. Those kids would all be in their 30s now. I’ll never forget those days.
Debra, what can you not say about this beautiful soul. You were the image of faith and strength. You fought every obstacle with tenacity You loved with your whole heart. We are grateful for the time that was allowed to spend with you. Rest well. Your fight is over. The library is a better place because of you. .
Debra was such a delightful and insightful soul! What a joy she brought to each of us that she touched our lives with, love, kindness, knowledge and her big smile! She will be missed and her soul prayed for!
I met Debra at the Mobile Public Library where we worked together. We quickly became close friend through many things we shared in common. We both very passionate about nature, and we worked together in several projects to save bees. I always looked up to Debra as someone who cared so much about others well being, wanted to make a difference, and leave this world a better place.
I am forever grateful for our friendship and priceless memories we shared either walking in Mobile Botanical Garden, teaching children about plants and bees, or reading stories to kids.
I will always remember Debra’s radiant smile, kind words, and the best cookie she made. Please accept condolences to David and family.
Debra radiated love to all she met. She epitomized John 13:34-35. She will be missed by all of us in the Mobile Master Gardener program.

I first discovered YN1 Debra Morrow USNR when I was searching for a Naval Science Instructor partner @ WP Davidson High a few years ago.
Debra was my #1 , First choice..
I regret that she was not available due to conflicts but just like the fictional star George Bailey in my favorite movie ” Its a Wonderful Life” our world was a better place because of Debra.

Debra Morrow was an intelligent, loving, and kind person. She even served as our junior varsity basketball coach. I have awesome memories of her. 💙💛
