Donald B. Hughes

Tribute

Donald Bailey Hughes passed away on October 8, 2020 at Saad’s Hospice in Mobile, AL.  He was born in Charleston, SC and resided in Daphne, AL.  Don was preceded in death by his parents, John Fenimore Hughes and Martha Bailey Hughes and his niece, Lisa Hughes Hardin.

Don is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Suzanne Roberts Hughes; his brother, John M. Hughes (Ruth) of Jonesboro, GA and his sister, Melanie H. Beck of Fort Morgan, AL.  Don is also survived by his nieces, Valerie Manning, Daphne Brewton (Alan), and Julie Lowe (Raymond).  Don was blessed with grand nephews and nieces, Kyle Brewton, Collin and Austin Lowe, Andrew and Catherine Hatch, Kayleigh Khan and Evan Hardin who also survive him. His special friend and cat Skillet also preceded him in death.  He will be deeply missed by his wonderful cousins who he dearly loved.  Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Bill Roberts (Kimberly), nephew, Seth Roberts, niece, Molly Roberts and special friends, John and Ann Mcleod, all of Mobile, AL.

His family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Saad’s Hospice for their excellent care, especially Dacia Nichols, RN.  No funeral service is planned as Don requested a gathering of his immediate family to share memories of their lives with him.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Azalea City Cats P.O. Box 1612, Mobile, AL 36633.  Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com.  Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home of Daphne, AL.

    I’m so sorry to hear of Don’s passing.
    I smile every time I think of our fun times sailing with Bubbie, and our skiing trips. He had a good life.

    Suzie, Melanie & family: our sincere condolences of Donnie’s passing which was such a shock to us. We have so many wonderful memories of Donnie & our Thanksgiving weekends together. We will always cherish the wonderful memories as well as the wonderful recipes he sent us to always remember him by. He was a wonderful person and heaven gained a great soul. Our thoughts & prayers are with you all. We love you!
