Donald E. Pruett, Jr. passed away on June 12, 2026, at his home in Daphne, Alabama, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on July 11, 1951, in Mobile, Alabama, to June B. Pruett and Donald E. Pruett, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death.
Don grew up in old Daphne, attended Christ the King Elementary School, and graduated from Fairhope High School in 1969. He went on to attend technical school in Mobile, where he studied drafting.
He built a career as a surveyor, draftsman, and project manager, contributing to numerous major engineering projects in nuclear power plant construction in Louisiana, Texas, and Tennessee. In 1994, he returned with his family to his beloved hometown of Daphne, where he owned and managed Pioneer Communications. He later continued working as an independent drafting contractor for many local businesses until his retirement.
Growing up in Daphne, Don spent his summers on the Bay fishing, crabbing, and chasing Jubilees with his buddies. He was known for his quick wit and wonderfully twisted sense of humor, which he carried with him until his final days.
He was a proud founding member of the Falstaff Cats, a Daphne men’s softball team, and had a surprisingly diverse taste in music. Most of all, Don loved his family, his friends, golf, Alabama football, and a good sip of bourbon or rum—though not necessarily in that order.
Don is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lisa Pruett; his sons, Paul Pruett (Hannah) and Michael Pruett (Becca). He took special pride in his grandchildren, Camilla and Claire, and his newest grandchildren, Gus and Molly. He is also survived by his siblings, Becky Pruett, Pat Pruett (Regina), and Libby Pruett (Cindy); his aunt, Joyce Pruett Bailey; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Per his request, there will be no funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with an announcement to follow.

Don was our friend in Tennessee who grew to love. We thoroughly enjoyed teasing him about the Tennessee Vols which he got a good laugh out of. We will miss his hospitality and will be praying for Lisa and the entire family.
I loved Don, and have heard many stories from David, about him. He was a great man, just like his dad.
