Doyles Dean Johnston was born on June 3, 1939, in Mobile, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dearman Davis and Rosa Davis; her former husband, Isaac Johnston; and her sister, Aline Smith.

On May 26, 2026, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones who cherished her.

Doyles was well known by everyone for her remarkable kindness and her deep, enduring love for her family. Above all, she was defined by her love and loyalty to her children. While she was not always highly expressive with her feelings in her earlier years, her expressiveness truly blossomed during the final stage of her life. In those quiet, tender moments, her gratitude, love, and fierce loyalty became completely felt through her words and actions. Even as her health declined, she held onto that love with incredible strength.

When she was younger, she found joy in simple pleasures. She loved the magic of Christmas, especially when her children and grandchildren were very young. Doyles was immensely proud of her grandchildren as they grew—holding a very special place in her heart for her grandchild, Samantha. She had a fun, spirited side too—she loved gambling, the excitement it brought her, and going fishing, though she only loved it if someone else baited her hook (a memory that still brings a chuckle to us today). She was also a huge Elvis fan and truly enjoyed reading and watching her favorite daytime soaps. Alongside her favorite pastimes, she had a wonderful appreciation for food, particularly lemon pie, coconut cake, and her absolute favorite—nothing came before bacon.

She was a genuinely beautiful woman, but her finest quality was her huge heart. She possessed a truly giving nature, always expressing her love by offering her help to the very end, giving the best hugs and kisses, and sharing what she had with such immense warmth. She cared deeply, always considering someone else’s feelings before her own—though she was also entirely capable of making her wishes known when warranted, with a special tone that fondly reminded us all that she meant business.

She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and sweet memories that we will cherish forever.

Doyles Dean Johnston’s deep devotion lives on through her six children, Cynthia Novay, Sharon Gates, David (Bubby) Young, Marie McCall, Sandra Elmore, and Angela Kohn. She is also survived by her sister, Mavis Lynn; her brother, Carlton Davis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her love and pride continue to shine brightly in the lives of her nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family.
