Dr. Enoch McLain “Brother” Toler was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the son of Dr. Clovis Seville and Peggy Burr Toler. He grew up a barefoot boy on a bicycle in Clinton, Louisiana — the place he always called home.
A graduate of Clinton High School and Louisiana State University, he earned his medical degree from LSU Medical School in 1964, following the family legacy of medicine begun by his father and grandfather.
He married the love of his life, Anita Rea of Florence, Alabama, in 1963. After completing his internship in Memphis, Tennessee, he served two years with the U.S. Public Health Service in South Dakota and Minnesota, where he directed two Native American Indian hospitals.
Dr. Toler completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, serving as Chief Resident, before settling in Mobile, Alabama in 1970. He joined the practice of Drs. Ray Abell and William Jeansonne where he cared for women and families with compassion and dedication for 36 years.
Known for his calm presence and gentle spirit, Dr. Toler’s care was both medical and deeply human. He served as President of the Medical Society of Mobile County and was an active member of several medical associations.
Dr. Toler retired from practice in 2006 and has made his home in Daphne since 2003. An adventurer at heart, he and his family shared a love of sailing, snow skiing and travel. The Toler family created countless memories together on Mobile Bay and their mountain house in North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anita; daughter, Michelle Toler, and her children, Margaret, Annie, and Christian; son, Dr. Aaron Toler, and his wife, Dr. Kim Toler, both obstetrician-gynecologists, and their daughter, Ellie; and great-grandson, Enoch Samuel, born to Margaret.
Known as “Dadee”, his grandchildren will forever treasure his warm hugs and his love of dessert.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama, Community Hospice and to caregivers Sharon Stanley and Angela McCryndle for their loving care.
Dr. “Brother” Toler will be remembered always for leading with his heart — a devoted physician, husband, father, and friend whose life was defined by faith, compassion, and love.
All are welcome on Thursday, November 20, 2025, for Mass at 11AM at Saint Joseph’s Chapel, Springhill College. A celebration of life will follow at the County Club of Mobile from 12:30PM-2:30PM. The burial will be private.

What a wonderful doctor! Dr. Toler delivered 2 of my children and was the most kind and compassionate doctor that I have ever known. He always made you feel like you were his only patient and that everything would be fine! He will be greatly missed!
He was the very best Doctor anyone could ask for. When I found out at the age of 28 that my husband and I were wanting to have a family. He did not want
to let us know that I had cancer . He was so compassionate and treated me like his own daughter. He was a loving and caring

Dr Toler delivered our first daughter and was not only a fabulous MD he was a friend, he cared for all of my family of ladies thru cancer, he could console our husbands words just don’t really do him justice, God received an angel.
They don’t make them like Dr Toler anymore! He delivered my twin girls 28 years ago. He was a wonderful doctor and a great human!!

The first time I met Dr. Toler was in 1971 at Emperor Clock Company. The owner wanted to present Dr. Toler a Grandfather Clock for delivering his first grandchild. That’s when I decided my two sons would be delivered by him in 1973 & 1977. 🥰 He truly was a rare breed & the epitome of what a Doctor should be. 5 years ago I had a chance to bring flowers from Southern Veranda & was able to talk with him for the last time & thank him for everything, especially during the first 3 years of my youngest, “BAD CHAD” at Mobile Infirmary. My heart is broken along with the family &.friends but knowing he’s finally HOME😇 & resting in peace🙏🏻✝️ gives us all comfort❤️

He would always tell me his wife’s name was Anita and his middle name was McLain..
