Eric B. Reuss

July 24, 1947 - June 12, 2023


Eric Brandt Reuss, born Eric Brandt Wiseman, to Jack Edward Wiseman and Marian Roberta Muentzer Wiseman, in Vincennes, IN at Good Samaritan Hospital on July 24, 1947.  Jack perished in a plane accident when Eric was very young, when Roberta finally remarried, Eric was adopted and raised by Foster A. Reuss.

Eric attended North Central High School in Indianapolis where he played varsity football and worked at an engine foundry for the Chrysler Corporation and earned a scholarship to Indiana University, where he earned a master’s degree in marine biology.  While attending IU, Eric enlisted in the US Army where he served for six years as a First Lieutenant for the Airborne Rangers-Mechanic 2nd BN 509th Infantry in Europe and the far east.

After being honorably discharged, he went on to attend law school at the University of Indiana-Bloomington, where he earned his law degree.  He worked as a civil tax lawyer and C.P.A.  At the time of his death, he was still employed at Intuit-TurboTax as a team leader.

Eric passed away on June 12, 2023, at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, AL, at the age of 75.  He has been a resident of south Alabama for the past 25 years.

Eric is survived by his two children, Christine Elizabeth Driskill and David Brandt Reuss; four nieces and nephews, Brandt Lee Smith and his two children, Erik and Emily, Chrisy Sue Smith Wickes and her three children, Riley, Reagan and Reece, Kimberly Anne Smith Doerflein and her four children, Zachary, Bradley, Madeline and Matthew and Carrie Lynn Smith and her three children, Kelsie, Kennedy and Presleigh; and last but not least, three unofficially adopted children that considered him as their father, David Eugene Madison, Ethan Chandler David and Troy Mortellaro, who grew up with his son, David.

Eric was an avid pilot and sailor throughout his life and was a member of the Fairhope Yacht Club and Gulf Yacht Association.  He was a member of the Mobile Bar Association and Knights of Columbus.  He attended church at both Church of the Apostles in Daphne and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope.

In the latter part of his years Eric found joy, peace, and happiness when he reconnected and married his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Anne Boles Reuss, in 2018. They enjoyed multiple beautiful years together traveling across the United States in an RV. In a tragic series of events starting April of 2022, both Eric and Deb were diagnosed with Cancer. Deb passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023, in the company of her Husband and close friends.

Eric was a beloved father, husband, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed. 

His memorial service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 11AM at Church of the Apostles, 7159 McIntyre Street, Fairhope, AL.  The service will be followed by a reception from 2PM – 4PM at Fairhope Yacht Club.

His ashes will be interred next to his older sister, Sherry Lee Wiseman Smith, with whom he was very close with, as well as other family members in Indiana, at a later date.
