Flora Berneice “Bernie” Underwood, 88, a native of Birmingham, AL and a resident of Orange Beach, AL, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019.
Bernie was involved with the Salvation Army and was a pastor’s wife in service to Methodist churches from 1954 – 2015, including Queensboro Community Church in Queensboro, NY, North Yonkers Community Church in Yonkers, NY, Wesley United Methodist Church in Franklin Square, NY, Riverchase United Methodist Church in Hoover, AL. She graduated from John Herbert Philips High School in Birmingham, AL and Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. Bernie was an avid reader, she enjoyed making ceramics and loved to laugh and tell stories.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Rev. Edward Anthony Underwood; son, David Edward Underwood; and her parents, Mark and Flora Rider.
Bernie is survived by her two daughters, Debby (George) Sallay of Middlesex, NJ and Diane (Herb) Raudnael of Orange Beach, AL; granddaughter, Amanda (Marcos) Maltez of Baldwin, NY; great-granddaughter, Camila Valentina Maltez of Baldwin, NY; brother, Eugene (Eva) Rider of Sweden; and sister-in-law, Mildred (William) Abrams of Pennsylvania.
