George Durant France, age 80, a native of Bromley, and a longtime resident of Daphne, died Monday, January 15, 2007. Mr. France was a retired linotypist for the State of California and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Robertsdale. After winning 6 tournaments, he was inducted into the Far West Golf Association for the deaf in 1990.
Survivors include his wife, Christine M. France of Daphne, 4 daughters, Belinda Nabarriette of Aptos, CA, Betty Lou Welchraft of Huntersville, NC, Lila Yettou of Newport, RI and Kristin Roper of Grove Hill, AL; 2 sons, Robert France of Carmichael, CA and Joseph Yettou of Sacramento, CA; 4 sisters, Doris Gipson of Mobile, Evie Mohler of Fairhope,
Alice Rieben of Bay Minette and Patsy Mayo of Riverview, FL; a brother, Bennie France of Bay Minette; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. France will be held at 2 PM Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the First
Baptist Church of Robertsdale with Rev. Jeff Copeland officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1 PM. Interment will be in Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to “His Signing Light Deaf
Ministry” of First Baptist Church of Robertsdale, P. O. Box 1140, Robertsdale, AL 36567.
