George Fred Eckenstaler, Jr., passed away on February 17, 2024, in Fairhope, Alabama, with his family by his side.  He was 98 years old.

George was born July 18, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to George Fred Eckenstaler, Sr. and Alice Roskowski.  After serving in the Coast Guard during WWII, he graduated in 1950 from the University of Illinois with a B.S. Electrical Engineering degree.  He then was united in marriage to Corinne Papke. George and Corinne resided in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Slidell, Louisiana; and Atlanta, Georgia, while he worked for Allis Chalmers – Siemens Companies for 39 years and retiring in 1989.

During his retirement, George and Corinne visited various sites in the USA, family members and old-time friends along the way. He also worked in the office of his church, Bethany Lutheran in Slidell, for 7 years. After moving to Fairhope, he continued living out his faith caring for his wife in her final years. He also enjoyed talk radio, sports, and computer work, but most of all, spending quality time with and caring for his family.

George is preceded in death by his parents George and Alice Eckenstaler, his wife of 63 years, Corinne J. Eckenstaler, his sister, Lois Lapp, and his son-in-law, Richard Manicke.

He is survived by his children, Sharon Manicke, Jeffery Eckenstaler (Donna) and John Eckenstaler (Tammy); grandchildren, Curtis Manicke (Melissa), Andrea Quave (Robert), Mark Eckenstaler, Drew Eckenstaler, Sierra Veazy and Stacy Johnson (Jared); great-grandchildren, Caitlin Manicke, Nathan Manicke, Emily Quave, Olivia Quave, Gavin Johnson and Sebastian Gomez; and his sister, Joan Katoll.

A celebration of life service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Daphne, Alabama, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 12PM.  There will be a time of visitation before the service at 11AM. Interment will follow the service at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 2PM. Pastor Rich Mueller will be officiating.
