George Goodall Allen, 78, of Fairhope, AL, passed away on August 13, 2025, surrounded by his family.
George was born on January 24, 1947, to Natalie and Gerstel Allen. George graduated from Enterprise High School in 1965 and went on to attend Alabama College (now the University of Montevallo). He later earned a degree in Animal Science from Auburn University, laying the foundation for a career rooted in both science and service.
After working for several years, George began his career in Science Education, where he went on to teach Chemistry at Daphne High School. He inspired generations of students with his knowledge, patience, and passion for learning. He retired in 2009, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship and dedication.
George met the love of his life, Sandra Kay Cheatham, in 1958 in Enterprise, Alabama. Their bond grew into a beautiful marriage that lasted 58 years, filled with laughter and shared dreams. Together, they raised two children, Margaret Virginia and George Shelby, who were the heart of their world.
George was a man of many passions, and he delighted in sharing them with those he loved. He introduced his family and friends to the joys of sailing in Mobile Bay, the thrill of offshore and fly fishing, and the wonder of traveling across the United States. Whether navigating open waters or winding roads, George’s adventurous spirit and generous heart made every journey unforgettable.
Later in life, George and Sandy found immense joy in traveling with their children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories across the country. George’s love for the outdoors and hands-on work continued well into retirement. He spent many fulfilling hours at Navy Cove Oyster Farm, and at home tending to his chickens.
George is preceded in death by his beloved parents, and his sister, Marian. He is survived by his devoted wife, Sandy; his two children, Margaret Virginia (Jeff Zundel) and George Shelby (Rosanna); and his cherished granddaughters, Mcllelan Grace and Brady Paige; his brothers, Wally (Susan) and Danny (Mary Kay); and numerous nieces and nephews. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A funeral service to honor George’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Church of the Apostles, 7159 McIntyre Street in Montrose. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life well lived.

The news of Mr. Allen’s passing hit home tonight. I’ve thought about him often and was just searching a few weeks ago wondering how and what he was doing now. He has forever been my favorite teacher throughout all my years of school and I still fondly remember organizing a special gift for him from our Advanced Chemistry Class:
In a passing conversation during class one day he mentioned the Knives of Alaska company and the fantastic knives they made. Being the “industrious” individual that I was, I talked the class into contributing to order one of the knives for him at the end of the year and then had to figure out how to get him to meet us off campus to receive the gift. I’m sure he thought we were a bit nuts but his lovely daughter joined us for breakfast at IHOP and we got to pull off a great surprise for a fantastic teacher that left an amazing impact on everyone of his students.
We’ll be thinking about Mrs. Allen and all of the family.

Sandy, Margaret and Shelby, we was so sorry to hear about George’s passing! Please know that Joshua and I are thinking about you and praying for you during this difficult time. Josh loved George so much, he took Chemistry three times! 🙂 Praying for peace and comfort over the days ahead.
I love Mr Allen and his wonderful sense of humor in the classroom, reminding students to put their “seatbelt” on before fall asleep in his class. 😂
But what I remember most are the countless hours he spent catching balls for his good friend Coach Skoda while we took infield at baseball practice.

Mr. Allen was certainly an inspiration to so many. Whenever someone asks me how I decided to become a chemical engineer, the story cannot be told without him. I find it highly unlikely I would have ever pursued the degree without his knowledge and encouragement. So thankful I had the opportunity to be one of his students! Prayers for the Allen family.
George was a dear friend while we taught together at Daphne. We had some great memories in many ways especially our great fishing trips. We dearly loved George and his family. He was very instrumental in the start of Daphne High School. He will be greatly missed and remembered.
George and Sandy and my husband who is deceased. Were good friends and like George and Sandy were high school sweethearts. We had so many goood memories and good times. Like my love Felix, i will always think of them as a unit that will be put back together one sweet day!!
Donnie and I have loved spending time with George and Sandy over the years for family celebrations of all kinds!! We send our heartfelt condolences to Sandy, Margaret, Shelby and all the family during this difficult time.
I will remember George as a smart guy who had knowledge of and could discuss many things in life. He could also handle a chainsaw and fall a tree as good as any man. He loved sawing and splitting his own firewood, could reload his own shells and adjust the valves on his Triumph Trophy 1200. He was kind enough to sell me that bike when I retired and it will always be our bike. I have enjoyed it so much and I will miss our conversations about it.
Your family has great memories and have a lot to be proud of in your life which was well lived. As a husband, father and grandfather you provided them with a wonderful life.
I will miss you and in your honor and memory I will continue to be the best grandfather I can to Mcllelan and Brady. I know you loved them so. I hope to bump into you in Heaven in a time to come, love you man.
