Gilbert Walter Reiser, a native of Wisconsin and a resident of Theodore, Alabama, died Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the age of 96.
Gilbert served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver most of his life. He enjoyed trucking and going camping.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hedwig Reiser; his beloved wife of 78 years, Helen Jean Reiser; and his sister, Hattie Cornell.
He is survived by his two sons, Ronald Reiser (Jennifer) of Semmes, AL and Terry Reiser (Vi) of Berlin, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Robb (Annette) Reiser, Ryan (Amanda) Reiser, Rachel (Chris) Craig, Alecia Reiser, Benjamin Reiser and Dr. Charity Baker; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Joel, and Julie Ann Reiser; Grace and Grant Reiser; Makayla and Madison Craig; Caleb, Chloe, Catlin and Cayson Starks; Bria (Cullen) Feist, Gabrielle, Audrianna, Evan Jonathon Reiser; and Andrew and Lily Baker; one sister, Lillian Henderson; and his pet dog, Fronzie.
Funeral services will be held at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, Alabama, on Monday, December 8, 2025. There will be a time of visitation before the service begins at 10:30AM, followed by the service at 11AM. Interment will be at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1PM.

Gilbert was my uncle (I am the son of Lynn Henderson … Bill). He was the only uncle I had on my mom’s side of the family which is for the better as I’m confident no other uncle could have matched the admiration and respect I had for him.
In so many ways he was a model of what a true man of faith should be. Additionally, he also showed me, as I observed through family gatherings, how important it was to be a self-sufficient individual and take full responsibility for your actions and decisions throughout life.
Finally, on those occasions where we visited his home; there was an unavoidable warmth and welcome from his gracious hospitality.
I’m certain that you were greeted with wide open arms as you reached the gates of heaven!
I will truly miss Uncle Gilbert. Since my mother’s (his oldest sister) passing Uncle Gilbert and I have had more frequent contact with each other by phone.
Uncle Gilbert always made our conversations very interesting. I loved being able to talk about spiritual topics and for me to be able to ask him about the things of God, the Bible and daily living.
Like Bill Henderson stated Uncle Gilbert is my one and only Uncle on my mom’s side of the family. He was a good resource for me to hear him talk about his upbringing and what life was like being raised with their source of income coming from the cheese factory their family operated. Our grandparents were both from Switzerland and they had instilled a real sense of determination that was very evident in Uncle Gilbert’s life too.
I know God called Uncle Gilbert home and that is a true blessing. My hope and prayer is I will meet my Uncle again some glorious day.
