In Loving Memory

Glen Wright

December 3, 1938 - January 1, 2023

Tribute

Mr. Thomas “Glen” Wright, 84, of Daphne, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2023. He was surrounded by loved ones and passed away peacefully. He was born December 3, 1938, to Fred and Inez Wright in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Glen was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He married the love of his life, Linda Carroll, on July 26, 1969. They spent 53 happy years together. After proudly serving in the Marines as an MP for 4 years, then graduating from Mississippi State University with a BA in Business Administration, Glen enjoyed a long and outstanding career in manufacturing. He climbed the corporate ladder while working various positions in locations including Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Alabama. He retired in 2001 as Vice-President and General Manager of Delfield Corporation. He was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan and loved nothing more than spending a brisk morning hunting in the woods or any day playing golf. He also loved to cheer on the Bulldogs!

However, Glen’s most cherished activity was spending time with his family. Devoted to his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, he enjoyed cooking everyone a good meal, traveling on family vacations, telling them stories of his past, and keeping them laughing with his one-of-a-kind humor. He was a born-again Christian and attended various churches of the Baptist faith during his life.

Mr. Wright is survived by his loving wife, Linda Carroll Wright; daughter, Tiffany Wright Burtnett and son-in-law, Edwin Spencer Burtnett of Bloomington, Indiana; daughter, Stephanie Wright of Spanish Fort, Alabama; and two grandsons, Edwin Spencer Burtnett, II and Thomas Connor Burtnett. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robert Pell of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, two older brothers and a sister.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Thomas Hospital for the excellent care they provided in his last days.

There will be a time of visitation on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road in Daphne, AL, from 10AM – 12PM.  A graveside service will be held later the same day at 3PM at Machphelah Cemetery in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Linda, Tiff, Steph. We are wishing all of you comfort. I hope this poem by Henry Scott Holland helps alleviate some of your sadness.

    All Is Well

    Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,

Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
    Just around the corner.
    All is well.
