Harry C. Grant, Jr.

March 13, 1929 - April 15, 2024


Harry Clifford Grant, Jr., age 95, of Fairhope, Alabama, left this world on Monday, April 15, 2024, to his next journey.

Harry was born on March 13, 1929, in Cherokee, Iowa. He was a proud husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Our dad was a loving, honest, compassionate, and dedicated to his family. Being the youngest surviving sibling, believe when I say, “My dad has loved us all for as long as we all have lived, but we all loved him our whole life and in our heart”, and I speak for the whole family.

Harry graduated from Overlake High School in Washington.  He was an avid gardener, he loved travelling, playing cards with family.  He enjoyed sports and he also volunteered at the local library.

Harry was a proud veteran of the United States Army.  At the age of 24, Harry enlisted in the United States Army on July 11, 1953.  He valued this service highly and transferred to the Army Reserve on July 25, 1956, where he attained his highest rank of Chief Warrant Officer Four.  With having served faithfully and honorably for 36 years, the United States Army issued a Certificate of Retirement on his 60th birthday March 13, 1989.  He served with HQ CO102 SIG BN, USAREVR Heidelberg, Germany, with various Army Reserve units in California and earned several awards such as Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), Army Commendation Medical National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

Harry worked for AT&T, and after 33 years, he retired.  Harry and his wife, Elsie, were married for 56 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie M. Grant; parents, Harry Grant, Sr. and Pearl Mae Grant; brother, William Grant; sons, Jeffrey L. Grant, Theodore C. (Peggy) Hustava, and Timothy M. (Tina) Grant.

Harry is survived by his sons, Ricky W. Grant of Oklahoma, Robert P. (Lavon) Grant of California, Michael A. (Nancy) Grant of Alabama, and Clifford W. (Ana) Grant of California; his daughters, Debra A. (Bud) Morris of Fairhope, AL, Gwen L. (Donald) Goldesberry of California and Tammy L. Hustava. Our Dad, aka Grandpa, aka Poppy, has 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service with full military honors will take place at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL, on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 10:00AM.
