Spanish Fort, AL

Harry Earl Freeman, 64, born in Fairhope, AL and longtime resident of Spanish Fort, passed away, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at his mountain home in Hardy, Arkansas.  He loved being on the water so much, that he left home to work on a tugboat for many years and later became a captain. He also served as a Merchant Mariner for over 40 years.   Harry enjoyed life to the fullest.  He loved riding his Harley and hanging with his family and friends.  His kind heart always found the good in people.  When he encountered someone with a need, he would find a way to meet it.  Harry’s family meant the world to him and spending time with them was always something he looked forward to.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and hearing him speak his favorite saying, “Be good or be good at it!”   He is predeceased by his parents, Oliver Floyd Freeman, Sr. and Ruth Lee Freeman and his brothers, Robert Freeman, Hugh Freeman, Oliver Freeman, Jr. and Jimmy Freeman.

Surviving are his sons, Daniel Freeman, Spanish Fort and Ki Freeman, Baldwin County; his daughter, Kimberly Kinsey, Spanish Fort; his brothers, Glen Freeman and Russell Gene Freeman; his beloved grandchildren, Christopher J. Kinsey, Isabella G. Kinsey and Elena K. Freeman, all Spanish Fort.  Also surviving are his childhood friend, Charles Cooper, Spanish Fort and his close friend and neighbor who was always like a brother to him, Mike “Meece” Leckelt, Hardy, Arkansas; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family will celebrate his life with a memorial visitation from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne.  There will be a time of remembrance and sharing beginning at 7:15 pm.  Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com.  Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home & Crematory, 7951 American Way, Daphne, AL, 36526.

    To the Freeman Family,

Harry was a true gem, an amazing life story, and kindest of hearts. He spoke of his family constantly with great love and pride. He will be missed. I am only grateful for having the honor of knowing him for the short time that I did.

Fair Seas and Following Seas Captain. You will be missed.
