Tribute

October 26, 1929 – May 30, 2011 In Loving Memory.
Helen Clark Atkins Cook, 81, formerly of Miami, FL, and originally of Rome, GA, peacefully shed her earthly body at her home in Gulf Shores, AL on May 30, 2011.

She was preceded by her parents, Jesse and Vera Atkins and beloved husband, Jack W. Cook.

To treasure memories of her, she raised two devoted daughters, Sherry Cook of Jacksonville, FL and Betty Hatter of Mobile, AL, adored granddaughter, Amy (Brian) Randall, and great grand children, Sebastian, Bianca, Eva, Vivienne and Liliana. Three loving brothers James (Chris) Atkins, and Frank Atkins of Monticello, GA; Sanders (Gladys) Atkins, and a cherished sister Hilda Atkins Moore of Rome, GA and as well as numerous nieces and nephews also hold warmhearted memories.

Mrs. Cook enjoyed her love of fashion while employed at Harvest of Fashions in Foley. For relaxation, she relished surf fishing in the Gulf on West beach.

An avid gardener with a green thumb, Helen was thrilled when her Camellia blossom “Little Babe Variegated” was awarded second place at the Atlanta 2000 Southeastern Flower Show. She enjoyed nature and her yard was a haven for birds including her favorite, cardinals. Mrs. Cook was a 23-year member and supporter of the Ladies Auxiliary for both the American Legion and VFW. All will miss her sweet nature, fun-loving ways and sense of humor.

The family would like to extend their profound gratitude to family friends, Vicki Race, Billy and Suzi Minor, Larry and Carolyn Cole, and Florence Hanscom. Memorials may be made to favored charities including the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust, the Humane Society of the United States, and Swan Center Outreach.

A celebration of her life is planned in the fall.
