Irene Bush McKenzie

January 1, 1930 - May 1, 2019


Irene Bush McKenzie, 89, a resident of Fairhope, AL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2019.  She was born in Mobile, AL on January 1, 1930.

Irene was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved to cook and spend time with family.  She was a long-time member of the Order of Eastern Star, Fairhope Chapter #127 and a long-time member of Barnwell Baptist Church.

Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Emmett McKenzie; son, Frank Hugh McKenzie; sons-in-law, Robert L. Haney and Marcus W. Comalander; her parents, and two brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Irma McKenzie Haney and Gloria McKenzie Comalander; son, Emory McKenzie; sister-in-law, Rose Turner; grandchildren, Vickie (John) Holbrook, Chris (Mandy) Haney, Daniel (Robyn) McKenzie, Phillip (Morgan) Comalander, Dillon McKenzie and Adam (Krystle) Comalander; nine great-grandchildren, Christina, Catherine, Blakleigh, Paxton, Connor, Lance, Addison, Keller and Fletcher; nieces, nephews; and other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Barnwell Baptist Church, 7780 US Highway 98, Fairhope, AL. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Brook Cedron Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Irene’s memory to the Mission of Hope, P. O. Box 8504, Mobile, Alabama 36689 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at
