Jackie Wayne “Jack” Gipson was born on October 20, 1944, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to Versie Crawley. He graduated from Gulfport High School and later from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1966. In addition, he proudly served in the United States National Guard for six years.
For 32 years, Jack worked for Gayfer’s Department Stores, where he was deeply dedicated to the 28 stores and their people, overseeing operations and personnel. After retiring, he enjoyed building homes in Baldwin County, Alabama. He kept both careers organized with his trusty yellow legal pads.
His greatest joy was his marriage to Nancy, his devoted wife of 55 years. Together, they raised a beautiful family. His role as “Grandaddy” was his favorite by far. He embodied loyalty—something his friends and family knew well. His early life was not an easy one, and from it he developed perseverance, a trait he instilled in his children, Gina and Greg, and his grandchildren, Mary Hays, Kate, and Owen.
Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. We find comfort in knowing he is now fishing with his buddies who have gone before him.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Gipson; his children, Gina Gipson and Greg Gipson (wife Mandy); and his grandchildren, Mary Hays Gipson, Kate Gipson, and Owen Gipson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Versia Crawley, and grandmother, Martha Ladner.
A visitation will be held at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road in Daphne, Alabama, on November 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Floral Hills Cemetery in Gulfport, Mississippi at 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Owen Gipson, Greg Gipson, Bucky Adams, Hunter Adams, Wendell Hudson, Don Fillingame, Scotty Williams, Jim Powell, Jerry Rider, David Denison, Don Alfonso, Ramsay Stuart, and Danny Powell
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists at Thomas Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.

Jack was my oldest Mercantile Stores friend. He hired me at Edgewater in 1972. No small coincidence, Nancy and my partner, Georgiana, were KD sorority sisters at Southern Miss. Jack was the glue that held a group of us together including Jim Powell, Rick Lynn, Cecil Williams, Ed Nichols, John Howard, Tommy Steber, Charlie Chadwick, Terry Powell, Don Smith, Carl Necaise and me. RIP until we meet again, Brother.
Jack was always a joy to work with during our time at Gayfers together. It was a real pleasure to get to know him. Prayers for him, Nancy and the family during this difficult time.

Jack and I worked for the same company for more than 30 years. How do you summarize nearly 50 years of a friendship that began with
our families first meeting in Pigeon Forge and the development of a deep love and appreciation for one another. That love, appreciation, and the memories will continue.

Where do I even begin…..Nancy, you and Jack had such wonderful and powerful ways of making your friends always feel so special when we were with you!!! I had the privilege and honor of working with Jack at Edgewater Gayfers and Springdale Gayfers and of getting to know his beautiful wife Nancy. I loved and appreciated Jack and wanted to add as one of his loves was Hardee’s biscuits and gravy. I’ve missed Jack over the past 30 years but it helps knowing where he’s hanging out these days and send Karen and my heart felt condolences to Nancy and the kids.

superintendent with Gayfers.Jack even came to my Sons funeral in Texas when we lost him.Nancy I am so so sorry
