James Clifton “Jim” Vance, longtime resident of Spanish Fort, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at the age of 84. He was born in Verbena, AL on November 17, 1935 to Charlie Julius Vance and Mary Elizabeth Patterson Vance. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Minnie Cornelia Vance. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He later graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in engineering was employed with the US Army Corp of Engineers. Jim Loved almost every sport including, baseball, football (Roll Tide!), basketball, golf, tennis, and softball. He enjoyed woodworking and he and his wife, Nancy had their own orchid nursery for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty three years, Nancy Woodward Vance of Spanish Fort, AL; his children, Mark Henry Vance and Marilyn Vance (Jim) Baggett, all of Spanish Fort; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Baggett (Kipp) Trawick of Fairhope and Jeffery Alan (Kayla) Baggett of Loxley, AL and his beloved great-grandchildren, Caleb Scott Trawick and Landon James Trawick.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Friday, June 19, 2020 at Eastern Shore Baptist Church, 6847 Park Ave., Daphne, AL, 36526. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 noon. Burial will immediately follow at 2:30pm in the Alabama State Veteran’s Cemetery, 34904 AL-225, Spanish Fort, AL 36577. Officiating will be Dr. Stuart Davidson and Rev. Troy Higginbotham.
