Former Councilman James O. “Bushhog” Ivy, of Creola, AL, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Saad Hospice Retreat in Mobile, AL. He was born on September 14, 1937, in Meridian, MS, the son of James Ivy and Elsie Robinson Vaughan.

James is survived by six sons, Edward “Big Ed” Ivy, Johnny Ivy, Karl Ivy, Bobby Wayne Ivy (Karen), Jamie Ivy and Randy Flowers (Lori); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog, “Dixie Girl.”

He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Linda Lewis Ivy who died in 2015; three sons, Steven Flowers, Scotty Flowers, and Lonnie “Roho” McKenna; two sisters, Charlotte Ivy Landry and Brenda Johnson Parker; his former wife, Nell Duell Ivy, and his beloved dog “Lady.”

James worked at International Paper Company in Mobile, AL for 42 years, retiring in 2000. He was a fireman for the City of Creola, AL for many years. He was a Councilman for 16 years for the City of Creola, AL. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.  He was a Mason for over 50 years, a member of the Howard E. Blackwell Lodge #899 in Satsuma, AL.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Big Rat Hunting Club. He enjoyed watching Alabama football, wildlife, working in his yard, sitting on his front porch, and cruising around in his little red truck with his dog, Dixie Girl. He was a family man and a friend to many.  His back porch door was always open to anyone, and he loved telling stories of the paper mill. He had a great sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes. He was a simple man with a strong faith and loved living the country life. He loved spending time with family and friends and shooting the breeze with them. His final wishes were to have a celebration of his life in the old country church by his home.

James was loved by many and will be forever missed by his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday May 13, 2023, at St. Andrews Chapel, 2354 Dead Lake Marina Road, in Creola, AL. Calling hours will be held from 12:00PM until 1:45PM at St. Andrews Chapel prior to the service. Flowers may be sent to St. Andrews Chapel or if you prefer, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or online at https://www.stjude.org/give. A private burial will be held at a later date.
