Theodor Jerry Hewett, age 87, passed away on January 23, 2026, at his home, in Daphne, Alabama. He was born on November 24, 1938, in Cape Town, South Africa.
Pastor Theodor Jerry Hewett was the best husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His entire life revolved around Jesus and his wife, Loretta. His two best friends.
To know him was to love him. He never met a stranger and never left anyone without a lasting impression. He had a beautiful laugh and smile that brought light into every room he entered.
He led and served faithfully in ministry for over 50 years, impacted hundreds of lives, and kept his love for Jesus (as well as his sense of humor) until the very end.
Pastor Jerry is preceded in death by his son, Jody Vaughn Hewett.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Loretta Hewett; his children, Craig, Jenny (Derick), and Lynne (Keith); his grandchildren, Shana (Justin), Jade (David), Taylyn (Tony), Landen (Sydney), and Brittany; and his great-grandchildren, Eli, Abby, Charlie, Caden, Charlotte, Viola, Mollie, and John; brothers, Reginald Mongie, Leon Mongie (Barbara), and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at City Hope Church, 29964 St Basil St, Daphne, AL 36526, at 11:30AM. There will be a time of visitation with family and friends before the service, beginning at 10AM. Pastor Jerry Taylor will be officiating. Interment will follow at Silverhill Cemetery, 22911 County Rd 49, Silverhill, AL 36576.
Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.

I must say that Pastor Hewett was probably the most loving and caring pastor that my husband and I ever had in all the many years we were in church. The anointing and love he had exemplified the Lord Jesus, himself. My dear husband will get to greet him in heaven before the rest of us, but it won’t be long now before all of us who remain faithful to the Lord will see them again!!
A pastor, a mentor, a teacher and a friend–the most Godly man that I have ever known. I can still hear him say in that South African accent, “my brother”…Go rest high on that mountain, son, your work on earth is done. I know the welcoming committee was there and waiting for you! You will be missed here on earth, but we’ll see you again!
We were blessed to have know Pastor Hewett. He was an amazing, mighty man of God. To the whole Hewett family, we pray blessings of peaceful over you all.
Words cannot express what a wonderful man he was!!! His life was a living testimony of his love for Christ!!!

partner in life Jerry. He was such an inspirational man who loved the Lord, & cared about people so deeply. I was very blessed to call him my friend, and mentor. I loved him very very much! He walked with me through the most difficult time of my lifetime when my Larry came down with cancer. He was devoted to helping us both, meeting with us for prayer many times, He was there at the end, speaking a blessing over Larry as he left this world to go to his heavenly home. I’ll never forget Jerry placing his hand on Larry’s chest, telling him that he was a good, good man. Jerry really loved people well!! He was completely devoted to you & your family . The Hewett’s were an inspiration to Jerry and me while we were at Bay Community. God put him in Jerry’s life at a time of much needed mentoring and encouragement. We always looked forward to the prayers in that beautiful accent!! Prayers and comfort to you Loretta as you wait patiently to see him again.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of such a wonderful neighbor. He went far beyond what anyone could ever expect—always making sure our home was looked after in our absence and even taking the trash out when we weren’t there. His kindness, thoughtfulness, and genuine care meant more to us than words can express.
He was truly a good person, and his presence will be greatly missed. We are grateful for the memories and for having had such an exceptional neighbor and friend.

Teresa and I are heartbroken to hear the news of Pastor Hewitts passing. No doubt heaven gained a beautiful angel. He is such a good man and so inspirational. Both of you were instrumental in helping us start a beautiful marriage and our new cherished family that we both longed for. We will never forget when he and Reverend Jerry Taylor presided over our wedding almost 11 years ago, and he encouraged me in praying over my wife, our children and our home during the ceremony. Memories that will live on forever. Pastor Hewitts pure joy radiated Gods Holy Spirit and was contagious to all that surrounded him. We will miss seeing his smiling face, his hugs and welcoming face every time we saw him. He has truly left a legacy of love, Gods greatest gift!

I can remember him at Bay Community many years ago literally standing on his Bible in service. It has reminded me over the years to stand firmly on & in the Bible at all times!! He was a fine man, and so welcoming.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of your husband and a great man of God.
I so vividly remember how Pastor Hewitt prayed over the offering that was to be given at Bay Community Church. His fervor in expressing his belief that God would provide for whatever the church needed made a lasting impression on me. His belief that God would do what He said He would do permeated the entire church community.
His warm embrace and his big smile let everyone know that he loved them and cared for them.
