Myrtle Jo Elliott, age 93, a native of Service, AL and a resident of Daphne, AL, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021.
Jo was a gifted storyteller and she captivated those she encountered with her charming wit and radiant spirit. She often spoke of her exceptional fortune in that she was blessed to have “a great 23 year love affair” with her husband, J.W., before his untimely passing in 1970. Jo enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, and was able to see places from Canada to South America to Alaska and so many places in between. She enjoyed spending her days with her friends at the Daphne Senior Center and proudly regaled them with stories of her loved ones.
Jo was an adoring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose life’s work and reason for living was her beloved family. She was a devoted and caring sister and aunt, as well as a faithful and dedicated friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James William Elliott, her parents, Myrtle Joseph Loper and Dorothy Shuman Loper; her siblings, Beverly Loper Prescott and Benjamin Loper; and her daughter, Dorothy “Dottie” Ellen Elliott.
Jo is survived by her sons, James William Elliott, Jr. of Spanish Fort, AL, and Steven Joseph Elliott (Guyton Maurice) of San Clemente, CA; her grandson, Jason William Elliott (Jennifer) of Birmingham, AL; her granddaughter, Paj Aline Elliott Pron (Stephan); and great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Kristene, Savannah Jo, Adrian Josiah, and Isaiah Liam of Fombell, PA; sister, Gloria “Glo” Loper Lewis of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Dale Loper of Ruffin, SC, and Wayne Loper of Panama City, FL; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as so many wonderful and dear friends at the Daphne Senior Center that meant the world to her.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm, Monday, May 24, 2021 at Hughes Funeral Home in Daphne, AL. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens of Fairhope. Expressions of condolence may be offered at www.hughesfh.com.
