John Jerry Hons, Jr., a lifelong resident of Baldwin County, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the age of 79.
John was a graduate of Robertsdale High School. He worked as a Builder/Contractor. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed spending time playing poker with friends.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John J. Hons, Sr. and Alma Bertolla Hons.
He is survived by his two sons, Jason Hons (Laura) and Justin Hons, both of Daphne, AL; two grandchildren, Alaina Hons and John David Hons; two sisters, Susie Hammock (David) and Rosemary Hall (Wiley); the mother of his children, Linda Hons; nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Coastal Church, 11101 Co. Road 64, Daphne, AL. There will be a time of visitation before the service beginning at 11AM, followed by the service at 12PM. Interment will follow at Belforest Catholic Cemetery in Daphne.
Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.

He was called Son also by our hunting Mentor Riley Gatlin…we hunted together for over 60 years doves an quail from the farm near Montgomery to Baldin and Mobole and Baldwin..we had several trips to New Mexico and zTexas…He had met friends in Monygomery and family and they and my other friends thought he was a nice giy.His dog was named After Gatlin and he gave me a puppy who was a great Brittany named zMojo..I’ll see you soon in heaven SON WELDON. Riley Gatlin was my grandfather. I’m Linda & Joe Harris’ daughter. I look forward to seeing you, again. Those men sure did love you.

John is in our Mens Group from Robertsdale and is well liked by everyone involved. He was our Fullback on our H.S. Football Team and he was a Brusier. John and I found a Shellcracker Bed in Lake Forest Yacht Club Basin many years ago and caught over 100 Fish off that one bed. Our Group will Definitely Miss Ya John
Hons, Honsy-Boy, Ol’ Hons, John…he was such a beloved character in my family. My grandfather & father loved hunting birds and fishing with you. I’ll never forget the many stories of pulling greens in a field then cooking dirty rice and birds. Holidays didn’t feel right with these men decked out in camo and leather vests. You were so loved by me. Say, Hello, to Riley & Joe, and John Eddy for all of us. 🕊️
I met John around 2010 and always admired him. We worked together and he was always fair. He was a good man that everyone respected. He attended the same church as we did and he sang in the choir. Rest in peace John. You will be missed.

John was a dear friend I met many years ago as a neighbor. He was like a father to me (mine had no relationship with me). John was also a great friend who would be there for you no matter what. I ate many wonderful meals John prepared, and had many fun memories with John. He will be missed dearly. Fly on angel! See you on the other side ❤️
He was always so kind to me and my family, he went to school with my parents and aunts and uncles and cousins. We had some business deals together also. I really thought very highly of him. It saddens me that time slips by and we miss out on connecting with others more often.
I’m going to miss my friend. John was always talking about his sons and when visiting he would show me pictures of his family and tell me how proud he was of them. He had many friends and was a friend to all. We talked a lot about the Lord and how He had blessed him throughout his life, he said, even when I was a heathen. He’s friendliness, sense of humor and laughter is going to be missed by all.
John was one of the most respected men I ever met. I had the pleasure of sharing countless conversations with him about business and life in general over coffee at the gas station in Daphne years ago.
I recall some great dove hunts with John when we were young. He used a 16 gauge shotgun and didnt miss many shots.We caught many bream in Bertolla Pond . Caught shrimp and crab when fish weren’t biting. John was a sportsman and fun to be around. John will be missed by all.
Today will be the burial of the body of John Hons, but his spirit will live on with all of us who knew him. He was a man one could rely upon and his word was his bond. John was a close friend and will be truly missed.
Just saw of John’s passing. We had lots of great times together ! He and I shared the same birthday! I know he will miss greatly! Prayers for the family!
