John Alton Whidbee, Jr., a native of Columbia, MS and resident of Daphne, AL, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at the age of 78.
John was retired military. He served in the US Coast Guard as Senior Chief from 1965 to 1983. He also served in the US Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He was a member of the US Armed Forces Honor Guard of Baldwin County, the American Legion Post 199, and DAV Arnold Bryers Chapter 45, as well as the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Association. John was an avid hunter and fishermen who loved being in the great outdoors.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Johnie Alton Whidbee, Sr. and Katherine O. Whidbee, and granddaughter, Jaiden Sipe.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Judy Brenner Whidbee; children, Johnny Whidbee of Fort Payne, AL, Tracey Whidbee Kauffmen of North Fort Myers, FL and Jodi Whidbee Sipe of Silverhill, AL; stepdaughters, Julia Langan of Mobile, AL and Sandra J. Taylor of Daphne, AL; grandchildren, John Taylor Whidbee, Racheal Kauffman, Chase Kauffman; step-grandchildren, Dominic Hall, Izabell Abbett, Eva Langan, Luke Langan, Siena Langan and Marshall Langan; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Linda Kay Whidbee Sherwood, Jane Whidbee Aslam, Amanda Whidbee Mayo and Lynn Latimer; his beloved dog, Bella; numerous aunts, uncles. Cousins, numerous in-laws and out-laws.
On Monday, July 18, 2022, family and friends will meet at 9:00 AM at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road in Daphne, AL, and then will leave promptly at 9:30 AM in procession to the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery for a graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the US Armed Forces Honor Guard of Baldwin County, P.O. Box 116, Daphne, AL 36526.

John was good man in every respect. John was a patriot and valued member of the Armed Forces Honor Guard and liked by all.
But most importantly, John considered me his friend. He will be remembered by all as well as missed.

In reading John’s military history, one can see that he was a true patriot and had a servants heart. What a sweet soul, He will obviously be missed by many friends and loved ones.. Sending friendship hugs!!!
